[09 Dec 05] *** Richard
is Sunday's "Daily Male" in Inside TV's October 24th issue *** -- The
October 24th issue of Inside TV featured Richard in two separate
spots, starting with an article on "TV's Blended Families." The article
has this to say of the Desperate Housewives contingent:
"When Susan (Teri Hatcher) found out that ex-husband, Karl (Richard
Burgi), was moving in with her neighbor Edie (Nicollette Sheridan), she
accidentally ran over her nemesis in a fit of anger. But what really hurt
was the thought of Edie performing with daughter Julie (Andrea Bowen) at
their church's family talent show. Though Susan tried to stop it, she eventually
put her daughter's best interests ahead of her own. But who knows what
will happen if Karl decides to make Edie the second Mrs. Mayer?"
Richard's page 86 entry as The Daily Male mentions him playing detective
with his younger brother:
"My youger brother and I had a detective agency as kids.We had our
own lab in the basement. I loved the stealthy nature of protecting and
serving, all of that cloak-and-dagger stuff."
Sadly, Inside TV has since decided to cease publication due to limited
circulation and increasing postal costs. Presumably the resulting TV coverage
'slack' will be picked up by sister publication, TV Guide.

[09 Dec 05] *** Austrian
daily The Kurier interviews Richard for article on "In Her Shoes" ***
-- The Sunday, November 6th "Kult" insert of The Kurier featured a story
on "In Her Shoes," titled "In Bed with Cameron: What the sexy actress
tells in the bedroom." Told from Richard's perspective, the article
touches on his interaction with stars Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette.
"Yes, during the shoot I spent the better part of an hour lying on
Cameron Diaz," said Richard before continuing with a laugh. "The
atmosphere on set was very relaxed and friendly. We talked about life and
music and my kids, mostly. And that she'd love to learn how to surf. And
then [director] Curtis Hanson interrupted and pulled on my skin-colored
slip to show a bit more of my bum... derriere. How do you say "derriere"
in German?"

[09 Dec 05] *** Extra interviews
Richard on location of People "Man of the Week" photoshoot in Malibu***
-- The Thursday, November 10th edition of Extra featured
an interview with Richard Burgi conducted on the grounds of Gladstone's
restaurant on the Malibu shore. Extra cohost Dayna Devon led
into the spot with an interesting take on Richard's increased prominence
this season.
"Well, the producers of Desperate Housewives have a breakout new
star, and this time it's one of the guys," teased Dayna while a scene
of Richard and Teri Hatcher played behind her. "He just made a Sexiest
Man list... now we're taking you to Malibu with Richard Burgi."
"Richard Burgi's got it made," Dayna continued, leading into
interview quotes from Richard. "His juicy gig on TV's hottest show entails
playing ex-husband to Teri Hatcher and boyfriend to Nicollette Sheridan..."
"Better kisser? Teri or Nicollette? Depends on their mood. Depends
on my mood, too," Richard deadpanned before Dayna's voiceover played
over scenes of him walking on the beach outside Gladstone's.
"After nearly two decades in the Biz, Richard's talking only to Extra
about his biggest break yet," said Dayna, " -- becoming a
series regular on Desperate Housewives."
"In between takes, you know, we make love... ahh... we like to get
naked, you know... try out various edible oils," said Richard, tongue
firmly in cheek.
The piece went on to detail Richard's selection as People's Man of the
Week and his reaction to the recognition (covered below).
(Thanks to Extra for the coverage!) |

[09 Dec 05] ***
People Magazine picks Richard Burgi as "Man of the Week" *** -- Richard
graces page 106 of the November 21st issue, where his page text
gives a brief list of vital statistics before delving into his "sex appeal."
SEX APPEAL: As caddish Karl Mayer, ex-husband of Susan (Teri Hatcher)
on Desperate Housewives, Burgi revels in playing a rogue: "Who doesn't
like a mischievous little boy?" Especially if he has a manly physique chiseled
by surfing, biking and yoga. Not that Burgi doesn't goof off. "I'll drink
too many beers or eat a pint of ice cream -- I give myself permission to
enjoy life," he says. One shared with wife Lori, 45, a yoga instructor,
and sons Jack, 8, and Samuel, 5. So what's his secret to staying sexy?
"Not taking myself seriously," says Burgi. "I have a saying: I'm not here
for a long time. I'm here for a good time."
Extra was on hand to interview Richard after People's "Man of
the Week" announcement. Extra cohost Dayna Devon led into an interview
quote with the following:
"The 47 year-old hunk clowned around outside Gladstone's eatery in
Malibu when we caught up with him shortly after People Magazine named him
Man of the Week."
"It's wild, you know, almost 50 years old and hearing that sort of
thing -- it's great!" said Richard, adding "It shows good taste
and... tone on the part of the -- ahh -- jurists from People Magazine."
Richard's photo shows him coming out of the sea, surfboard tucked under
his arm. "Surfing reminds me of my humble little -- silly thing called
my life," Richard told Extra.
(Thanks to Ruth for the issue info and scans, to Kat for the
heads up, and to People Magazine for their refined and exquisite good taste!) |

[09 Dec 05] *** Richard appears
in E! News coverage of Texas Hold'em tournament party at W Hotel ***
-- Part of the November 30th E! News coverage featured a "no limits"
celebrity poker tournament and party sponsored by Celebrity Living
and Harrison & Shriftman, party-planning gurus. The "star-studded"
party, which feted poker pro Annie Duke, was held poolside
at the W Hotel in Los Angeles on November 10th.
Though presumably not sitting in on any poker games, Richard
hung out poolside with "Desperate Housewives" costars Ricardo Chavira
and Mark Moses and fellow Jersey kid, Camryn Manheim of "The
Practice."
The event was also covered in the December 12th issue of Celebrity Living
magazine (pp.70-71).

[09 Dec 05] *** Richard
featured in SOAPnet "Days of Our Lives" 40th Anniversary special
*** -- SOAPnet correspondent Jason Bonderoff leads his "Famous
DAYS Grads" article with several paragraphs on Richard's post-DAYS career.
"Richard Burgi's career is anything but Desperate these days!"
says the the caption accompanying the "In Her Shoes" premiere photo, with
the article itself covering Richard's present work on Desperate Housewives,
his past work on DAYS, and some of his latest film work. Says Bonderoff
in closing:
Since exiting DAYS in 1993, Richard Burgi has starred in two primetimes
series, The Sentinel and Point Pleasant, and recently he played Toni Collette's
easily distracted boyfriend in director Curtis Hanson's chick flick, In
Her Shoes. His next film, slated to be released in 2006, is Shanghai Red,
which showcases him as a dramatic leading man. Burgi stars as Michael Johnson,
an American expatriate drawn to a grieving Chinese widow under strange
circumstances. Add the 48-year-old actor's weekly role on Desperate Housewives
to the mix, and Burgi's career is definitely going full throttle.

[09 Dec 05] *** Catch Richard
when Sci Fi airs "Darklight" on Saturday, December 10th at 1:00pm
ET *** -- Richard headed off to Sofia, Bulgaria in late
July '03 to join the cast of UFO Films' "Darklight," a Sci Fi
Channel Original Production for the
2004-05 broadcast season.
Richard played William Shaw and was joined by Shiri Appleby ("Roswell's"
Liz) as Lilith. Star Trek's John de Lancie and Stargate:
Atlantis' David Hewlett also star in "Darklight." Principal photography
began on July 28th and wrapped the week of August 18th.
Richard's Shaw is an operative of a shadowy organization called The
Faith, whose responsibility it has been to keep tabs on and take down Lilith
(Appleby), the mythical first wife of Adam who was cursed and turned into
a demon for her disobedience. Though Shaw is instrumental in her capture,
he's conflicted by her continued existence as a spellbound, amnesiac young
woman -- after all, she killed his only son.
Shaw's superior, played by DeLancie, hopes to hasten the coming of Judgement
Day by allowing an unscrupulous scientist (Hewlett) to inject himself with
Darklight, the essence of Lilith's blood. When the resulting Demonicos
begins its rampage, Shaw is forced to team up with Lilith and help her
regain her lost memories in order to battle -- and hopefully destroy --
the demon. Can Shaw conquer his hatred and mistrust of Lilth? Can Lilith
overcome her evil and violent history? Tune in to find out!

[09 Dec 05] ***
"Fun with Dick and Jane" premieres nationally on December 21st*** --
Jim
Carrey and Tea Leoni headline this update of the 1977 original,
which starred Jane Fonda and George Segal. Carrey and Leoni
play Dick and Jane Harper, a couple who find themselves on the verge
of financial collapse when Dick loses his job. The Harpers turn to a life
of crime to pay the bills, cooking up madcap schemes and wild heists to
support them in the manner to which they have become accustomed. Richard
plays their next-door neighbor Joe.
Several weeks of last-minute reshoots took place in September, apparently
to allow for more of "Carrey doing his normal schtick." Richard
was called back for roughly a week's work on rewritten or new scenes, so
presumably his character,
Joe, and Carrey's Dick Harper will
be playing "keeping up with the Joneses" to a much greater, and wackier,
degree.
The reshoots do not appear to have hindered either the film's December
14th Los Angeles "red carpet" premiere at the Mann Village Theater
in Westwood or its nationwide premiere a week later.
Trailers for "Fun with Dick and Jane" are now playing in cinemas
across the country and at various online sources. Richard appears in two
scenes of the original trailer as the Harper's next door neighbor, Joe,
and in a shorter version of the "red shirt" scene in the newer, office-based
trailer.
The trailer is available at the following online locations:

throughout December and January on the Starz Edge (Dec) and Starz
Kids & Family (Jan) Channels ***
Richard plays Craig Martin, the "wrong place at the wrong
time" realtor husband of movie heroine Jessica (Kim Basinger) Martin.
Unbeknownst to Jessica, Craig has videotaped crooked cops executing drug
dealers -- and the crooked cops are desperate to tidy up loose ends. To
get Craig and the camera, they abduct Jessica and the Martin's young son.
Jessica has one ace up her sleeve -- she's managed to patch a busted phone
together enough to tap out random phone numbers, and the guy on the other
end, Ryan (Chris Evans), is willing to help. Problem is, he's on
a cellphone, doesn't know where Jessica is... and his battery's running
low.

2: Hero of the Federation" airs in December and January on the Encore and
Encore Action Channels *** -- The Encore and Encore Action Channels,
part of the Starz Entertainment Group, will air "Starship Troopers
2" throughout December and January.
Richard plays Captain V.J. Dax, the hero mentioned in
the film's title. When we -- and the besieged troopers -- first meet Captain
Dax, he is the last man at an otherwise abandoned and desolate outpost
on planet Zulu Angel. Disgraced and imprisoned in the outpost's incinerator
for killing his commanding officer, he is somewhat the worse for wear --
dirty, torn, unshaven, and more than a little war-weary. When the rapacious
arachnids threaten to once again overrun the makeshift defenses of the
old outpost, Dax is called upon to rally the rag-tag band of Troopers to
fend off the marauding Bugs. Unfortunately for Dax and the Troopers, the
arachnids have other things in mind for the unsuspecting humans...

Richard Burgi plays series lead Jim Ellison, a former
Army Ranger now working as a detective for the Cascade PD in his Washington
State hometown. Ellison finds himself almost overwhelmed when his dormant,
and repressed, hyperactive senses are brought back online after a period
of solitude on a remote stakeout. Anthropology doctoral candidate Blair
Sandburg (Garett Maggart), whose chosen field of research is "Sentinels"
-- people with such enhanced senses -- has the answers Ellison needs to
control and work with his powerful and unpredictable abilities. Ellison's
long-suffering captain, Simon Banks (Bruce A. Young) helps Ellison
and Sandburg make the most of Ellison's sensory advantage by watching their
backs and keeping their extrasensory escapades under the radar as much
as possible.

[09 Dec 05] *** Catch Richard when
"Decoys" airs on The Sci Fi Channel on Friday, December 30th at 11:00pm
ET *** -- Richard plays Det. Francis Kirk in the Canadian-made tongue-in-cheek
blend of sci-fi and horror.
Richard made a quick trip to Ottawa, Canada, during March and
April 2003 for his role in Decoys, which director
Matt Hastings
described as "American Pie meets Species" -- a sci-fi thriller
set on a college campus. Richard plays Detective Francis Kirk. According
to the script, "He's a young cop who knows that he won't be in this small
town busting college students for party pranks for much longer. He thinks
he belongs somewhere between NYPD Blue and the cover of GQ."
The Species connection comes into play in the form of the beautiful
and -- let us say -- otherworldy young women who descend upon the college
campus in search of healthy and libidinous young men. Much as in Richard's
1998 version of I Married a Monster, alien beings come to Earth
in search of mates -- only this time, it's the Outer Space womenfolk who
are eager to reproduce. Unlike their Monster counterparts, these alien
"femmes" are quite literally "fatales," as their reproductive process leaches
the body-heat right out of their unfortunate paramours.
Richard's Detective Kirk becomes involved when the extraterrestrial
temptresses leave a string of frozen young men in their wake.
(Thanks to tv-now.com for the sheduling info) |

[09 Dec 05] *** Richard Burgi joins
Desperate Housewives as a Series Regular for Fall 2005 *** -- Richard
Burgi returns to Desperate Housewives as a Series Regular for the hit show's
second season. The series went back into production in late July, picking
up where the previous season finale left off.
Richard plays
Karl Mayer, Susan (Teri Hatcher) Mayer's
cad of an ex-husband on
ABC's award-winning hit series. Previously
seen in "Pretty Little Picture" and "Move On," Karl was back to bedevil
his ex in "One Wonderful Day," the highly-anticipated season finale.
As had been hinted at by Nicollette Sheridan (whose neighborhood
vixen Edie Britt has been Susan's nemesis), Karl becomes romantically
involved with Edie in Season Two. The legitimacy of Edie or Karl's affection
for the other is, of course, open for debate, as Edie may be motivated
by a desire to get back at Susan by romancing someone "near and dear to
Susan's heart." Karl himself may be motivated by a desire to make
Susan jealous, which may lead to some competitive behavior between Karl
and Mike (Jamie Denton) Delfino -- who Karl disparagingly calls
"the Plumber."
Thus far Richard has appeared in the second, third, and seventh episodes
of the Fall 2005 season ("You Could Drive a Person Crazy," "You'll Never
Get Away From Me," and "Color and Light") and is slated to appear in the
next (eleventh) episode to be broadcast, which is as yet unnamed.
Karl is coming across as a more sympathetic character this season, and
he and Edie are looking more and more like the most "normal" and straightforward
residents of Wisteria Lane -- though considering the neighbors they're
being compared to...

Housewives" page at the ABC website, which has been updated for Fall
2005.

Richard in "the Message" *** -- The Sci Fi Channel has secured
rerun rights to all fifteen episodes of Firefly,
Joss Whedon's
short-lived
"Western in space," and has incorporated the show into its Friday night
lineup, where it serves as the lead-in to Sci Fi's popular

Richard Burgi appears as Lt. Womack in "The Message,"
the shows' 13th episode. Written by executive producers Joss Whedon
and Tim Minear, and filmed in mid-December 2002, "The Message" was
one of the last of 14 episodes (15 with the pilot split in half) ordered
by FOX, and the last episode filmed. According to a brief description of
the episode, "the crew must deliver the corpse of an old war comrade
home, but things are not as they seem."
The script had this to say of Alliance Enforcement officer Womack: "He's
been around the block, and likely beaten up everybody on it."
Womack was intended to be a recurring character -- a shady lawman who would
undoubtedly cross paths with the Serenity at the most inconvenient times.
"The Message" will air next as part of a Firefly marathon at 5:00pm
ET on Friday, January 6th 2006.

[09 Dec 05] *** Richard's episodes
of "The District" airing in repeats on the USA Network*** --
With CBS having dropped "The District" from the Fall 2004
schedule, the USA Network has picked the show up for syndicated
broadcast.
USA is currently airing the show on Tuesday, Wednesday, and
Thursday at either 11:00am or 11:30am ET, depending on the day of the
week. Remember to check your local listings or the USA Network site for
additional information:
http://www.usanetwork.com/series/thedistrict/
The show is also airing in syndication in Singapore, where at last report
Season 4 was being broadcast. Assuming the broadcast cycle has started
over with Season 1, viewers are enjoying Richard's heaviest season -- seven
episodes.
A complete listing of Richard's episodes of "The District" can
be found on the Filmography page,
with an expanded listing and episode details on the District
Guide page.
Richard appeared in three of the show's four seasons in a total
of twelve episodes, playing the recurring role of the prickly and suspicious
Captain
Vincent Hunter, head of the DC Police Department's Internal Affairs
Division.
Unfortunately, the show did not take maximum advantage of the Hunter
character, though they established an intriguing back-story for him in
the first season episode "The DC Strangler." Ella Farmer (played by
the late Lynn Thigpen) told Chief Mannion (Craig T. Nelson)
a bit about Hunter. He was a highly-decorated officer with a relatively
high solve rate while in Homicide, a department he left after discovering
his wife -- also a police officer -- in bed with his partner..

[09 Dec 05] *** Seinfeld's
Season 5 joining the ranks of DVD boxed sets on the retail market *** --
With the November release of Seinfeld's fifth and sixth seasons, Richard's
hilarious turn as the "breathtaking" Dr. Ben is now available in the Season
5 DVD set.
Richard appears in "The Hamptons" on Disc 4 of the boxed set. Jerry
& Co. head to the Hamptons for a weekend at the beach. As it happens,
their hosts have recently had a happy event and their pediatrician has
also been invited along for the weekend. Elaine is quite taken with the
dashing and handsome Dr. Ben, especially when he refers to her as "breathtaking."
However, her confidence in her understanding of Ben's usage of the word
is severely shaken when he refers to the family's unspeakably ugly baby
as "breathtaking." Naturally, Elaine cannot leave well enough alone, and
pursues the issue to its inevitable and embarrassing conclusion.

[09 Dec 05] *** The Flash joining
the ranks of DVD boxed sets on the retail market *** -- As announced
earlier by the TVShowsonDVD website, a complete series DVD set of
The Flash will hit the shelves in January 2006. (The complete series boxed
set is already available for pre-order at Amazon.com).
The Flash is, in some ways, an older sibling to The Sentinel -- both
are Pet Fly Productions brought to the screen by Danny Bilson and Paul
DeMeo, and both featured several of the same actors and creative forces
-- Richard Burgi and Jeri Ryan being two familiar faces seen in both shows.
In fact, Richard and Jeri appeared in the same episode, "Deadly Nightshade"
-- Richard as the unbalanced copycat vigilante, Curtis Bohannan, and Jeri
as the kidnapped socialite.

from the standpoint of privacy and safety. If you have come across

-- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us

While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded
to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts
be sent to him. Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity
