||[18 Aug 08] *** Richard's Karl
to return to "Desperate Housewives" for Season 5? *** -- While there
do not appear to be any concrete plans as yet, it sounds like Karl may
still be around to bedevil Susan after the 5-year jump.
Mary McNamara of Multichannel News sat down for a chat with Teri
(Susan Mayer) Hatcher and Bob Daily (DH executive producer)
during an ABC bash at the July TCA event and posted the following article
on her July 17th blog.
"ABC Network threw a fabulous bash tonight in the ballroom of the Beverly
Hilton. The event was thick with stars including Vanessa Williams,
Lucy Liu, Teri Hatcher, Dana Delany, Gale Harold (who joins DH this season),
The press clustered around the accessible and gracious Teri Hatcher
(Susan Mayer) of Desperate Housewives. She was flanked by Desperate
Housewives executive producer Bob Daily.
I scooted in next to her on the sofa and we chatted briefly about her
comedic side. Hatcher hinted that Richard Burgi, who plays her caddish
and unpredictable ex-husband Karl, might be returning to the series.
'I can still fall down the stairs like nobody's business,' quipped Hatcher,
alluding to the five year time jump in the series this season.
Me: Some of the scenes between you and Richard Burgi were really amazing.
Teri: So you don't want to lose that?
Me: You two were really funny. You made me laugh out loud
and I loved it.
Teri: Thank you! ...made you laugh out loud! Did we pay
all of you people to come over here? Did that happen?
Me: Will we see any more of you and Richard perhaps, or is that
Teri gave me a surprised, delighted look, as if she wasn't expecting
the question, and said, 'Perhaps! Yes! Perhaps! Perhaps!
Isn't that exciting? I can admit it. All the girls on Desperate
Housewives think Burgi is hot.'
'Yeah, yeah,' nodded Bob Daily, grinning. (Desperate Housewives creator
Marc Cherry had introduced Daily earlier in the day as the 'guy who's been
helping me run the show for the past two seasons.')
'Everyone is a Richard Burgi fan, for sure,' said Hatcher.
'And some of the men!' added Daily.
'Yeah!' agreed Teri, as Daily nodded yes, yes. 'And some of the men
are Richard Burgi fans. Everyone is big on Richard. Ever since
the 'heart wants what the heart wants.' Pretty much, yeah - Burgi
to the end!'
Well, ladies (and gentlemen), we can all only hope."

||[18 Aug 08]*** Catch Richard's episode
of the CW's REAPER this week! ***
-- Richard's episode, "The Leak,"
will air on the CW at 9:00pm ET on Tuesday, August 19th.
Richard joined the Vancouver-based cast of "REAPER" in mid-April for
episode 1.17, titled "The Leak." He plays Mike Volta,
a soul condemned to hell for the sin of lust, as evidenced by a lifetime
of truly epic womanizing and bed-hopping. Mike seems charming, personable,
and funny, and takes reluctant soul-hunter
Sam's (Bret Harrison)
capture of him with surprising grace.
What Sam doesn't realize is that Mike doesn't fear being returned to
hell, as he has someone on the inside -- their DMV demon buddy Gladys
-- who's helping him escape. This doesn't sit well with the Devil
(Ray Wise), who wants the leak plugged once and for all, and wants
Sam to find out who the leak is.
At first, Sam doesn't understand why Satan wants Volta back under lock
and key -- other than his ceaseless philandering, he seems harmless enough.
Then Satan shows Sam the aftermath of Volta's dalliances -- relationships
laid waste and people left dead. When cornered, Volta shows his true, unsavory

Finding Jim and Maggie en flagrante pushes Rose to the end of her rope,
triggering her breakup with Jim and her estrangement from Maggie. Both

by Shirley MacLaine) and, eventually, each other once more.

||[18 Aug 08]*** Richard's episode
of "Seinfeld" to air on TBS ***
-- Catch Richard in "The
Hamptons" on Friday, August 22nd at 5:00pm ET.
Richard plays Dr. Ben Feffa in "The Hamptons," where he joins
Jerry, Kramer, George, and Elaine at the beachside house of friends who've
recently had a baby. Dr. Ben, the couple's pediatrician, has also invited
along for the weekend.
When Ben describes Elaine as "breathtaking," she is quite flattered,
and soon taken with the handsome doctor. Then she, Jerry, Kramer, and George
get a good look at the baby Dr. Ben has also described as "breathtaking"
-- and realize the child is breathtakingly ugly.
Confused and more than a little alarmed to be described with the same
word as the hideous infant, Elaine frets and kvetches until she finally
works up the nerve to ask Ben exactly what "breathtaking" means to him.
Of course, the conversation does not go well, and Elaine's potential romance
with the good doctor dies a-borning.
Meanwhile, George also manages to derail a potential romance by
fixating on what he perceives as his girlfriend's disappointment with his
impedimenta -- seems a swim in the ocean has resulted in some unfortunate
degree of "shrinkage."

||[18 Aug 08] *** "Bailey's
Mistake" airs August 23rd on the Hallmark Channel *** -- Catch Richard
in his all-too-fleeting scenes of "Bailey's Mistake" on Saturday, August
23rd at 11:00am ET.
Filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada in June 2000, "Bailey's Mistake" premiered
on ABC's "Wonderful World of Disney" in March 2001. "Bailey's Mistake"
was described on the zap2it.com website as "laced with romantic longing,
wistful memories, quirky humor and fantasy."
Richard played Paul Donovan, husband of Linda Hamilton's Liz
Donovan, and father of their two children. Liz is widowed when
Paul -- an adventurous soul -- explores a cave while out hiking; he is
mysteriously killed, and Liz's heartbreak is compounded a week later when
she discovers that Paul had secretly used their savings to buy land on
a small Maine island. (When broadcast, this version of Paul's untimely
death had been replaced with a more mundane -- and only mentioned in dialogue
-- death from a heart-attack while out on a two-mile run).
Liz, still grieving for Paul and feeling betrayed by him, decides to
visit the island and sell the property, taking their two children with
her. Bailey's Mistake, as the island is named, is not what she expects
-- nor are the people they encounter, a group which includes an assortment
of colorful folk claiming to be Paul's long-lost Gypsy relatives.
Richard's character, Paul Donovan, was only seen briefly in the movie
in a pair of dream flashbacks and a pair of ghostly visitations to his
son. Though more footage appears to have been shot -- the cave exploration
mentioned in the "zap2it" article features in one of Liz Donovan's dreams
-- Disney/Touchstone apparently decided to pare Paul's on-screen time down

||[18 Aug 08]*** Catch Richard's Season
4 episode of "Desperate Housewives" on August 24th ***
-- Richard returned
to Wisteria Lane for a single Season 4 episode titled "Opening Doors,"
which is scheduled to air again on Sunday, August 24th at 10:00pm ET.
"Opening Doors," episode 4.14, finds Karl (Richard
Burgi) and very pregnant new wife Marisa catching ex-wife
(Teri Hatcher) unawares as they sign up for the same Lamaze class.
Susan is accompanied by daughter Julie (Andrea Bowen) as husband
(Jamie Denton), conspicuous by his absence, has a previous engagement.
As if seemingly having been ditched by her husband wasn't bad enough, Susan
looks at Marisa and feels decidedly underdressed in her comfortable, but
stained, sweats. Verbal sparring between the exes ensues, with Karl mixing
news of his good fortune with jabs at Susan.
When the next class rolls around, Susan and Mike come swanning in dressed
to impress. When Karl comments that they're rather overdressed for Lamaze,
Susan spins an improbable tale of their hectic and fabulous social life,
which leads Marisa to lament that Karl never takes her anywhere. Karl,
of course, is not fooled, and has to work to hide a smile when Mike reveals
he has recently been in rehab for abusing prescription drugs.
Their third class finds both Karl and Susan attending solo. Susan, expecting
Karl to gloat and antagonize her, heads him off at the pass by telling
him his life is wonderful while hers is on thin ice. Karl defies expectations
and reassures Susan instead, telling her Mike *will* be there for her in
all the ways he, Karl, never was.

Richard Burgi plays series lead Jim Ellison, a former
Army Ranger now working as a detective for the Cascade PD in his Washington
State hometown. Ellison finds himself almost overwhelmed when his dormant,
and repressed, hyperactive senses are brought back online after a period
of solitude on a remote stakeout. Anthropology doctoral candidate Blair
Sandburg (Garett Maggart), whose chosen field of research is "Sentinels"
-- people with such enhanced senses -- has the answers Ellison needs to

long-suffering captain, Simon Banks (Bruce A. Young) helps Ellison

||[18 Aug 08]*** Richard appears
in "Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage," now premiering on DVD on November
-- Richard Burgi spent nearly three weeks in British Columbia,
Canada, in May '07 filming "Thomas Kinkade's Christmas Cottage," a movie
based on the early life of famous painter
Thomas Kinkade. The film
covers a pivotal period in the young Kinkade's life and explores the experiences
that led him to a career as an artist.
Richard plays Kinkade's father, Bill Kinkade, while Oscar winner
Gay Harden plays Kinkade's mother, Maryanne. Thomas Kinkade is played
by Jared Padalecki, brother Pat Kinkade is played by Aaron Ashmore,
and Kinkade's painter mentor, Glen Wessler, is played by multiple Oscar
nominee, Peter O'Toole.
Asked about his father in an interview, Kinkade described him as "a
talented amateur artist," adding "My dad traveled the roads. He was a womanizer,
a World War II veteran, a Frank Sinatra Rat Pack wannabe and was not involved
with the family. He was a civilian employee of the Air Force after the
war and drifted from job to job."
Ken LaZebnick, who wrote the film's screenplay, gave further
details to Kate Taylor of the New York Sun, describing Bill
Kinkade as larger than life. "He was this guy who had vast dreams and ended
up being an assistant manager at a pizza parlor in Sacramento. he took
his sons on these crazy trips, and he was an inveterate womanizer."
The film, distributed by Lionsgate, is now scheduled to premiere
on DVD in November 11th 2008.

||[18 Aug 08]*** Richard's episode of
the FX Network's NIP/TUCK to air in early 2009 ***
-- Richard joined
the cast of "NIP/TUCK" in mid-June for episode 5.21, titled "Allegra
Calderella." Part of an 8-episode block delayed by the WGA strike,
"Allegra Calderella" and its "back 8" bretheren will most likely begin
airing in January 2009.
Richard plays Dr. Logan Ayers, a plastic surgeon and apparent
acquaintance of Drs. Troy and McNamara (series leads Julian McMahon
and Dylan Walsh).
The casting breakdown for Ayers has this to say of the character: "35-45,
extremely attractive and refined, James Bond, after a martini. He is a
plastic surgeon with impeccable style and taste whose obessive-compulsive
behavior is just one symptom of his extreme sexual compulsion." The
breakdown goes on to specify that the actor cast in the role must be comfortable
with sexual situations and rear nudity.

to chronicle the ghastly events and history of the place; Richard's sheriff
is presumably the long arm of the Law in the Crystal Lake area and may
also be a witness to the gory aftermath of Mother Voorhees' rampage.
As one would expect in a "Friday the 13th" story, the cast is fleshed

as they snoop about the ramshackle remains of Camp Crystal Lake and engage
in impromptu bawdy romps amidst the ruins.

We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be
sent to Richard's home address! Receiving fan mail through his
home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially
from the standpoint of privacy and safety. If you have come across
what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it! We
-- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us
know where you came across the address by using this e-mail
link to the RBFC.
While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded
to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts
be sent to him. Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity
those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming. Richard
would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to
a local children's shelter or literacy program, or to the Pacific
Marine Mammal Center .
