[30 Jul 09] *** Richard's Karl
returns to "Desperate Housewives" for at least ten episodes of Fall 2009's
Season 6 *** -- Burgi and Karl fans got some good news this summer;
turns out Wisteria Lane's favorite cad is returning for at least ten episodes
of the new Fall 2009 season!
Karl was gradually reintroduced into the character mix during the last
month or so of Season 5, when he turned up at Susan's (Teri Hatcher) school
with a young son in tow. After Susan was shocked by wee Evan's bloodthirsty
artwork, Karl revealed that he had been dumped by his wife of five years,
Marisa, leaving him ill-equipped to deal with his son's abandonment issues.
Shortly thereafter, Susan let slip to Bree (Marcia Cross) that Karl
was the most cut-throat and successful divorce lawyer she knew of -- music
to the desperate Goody Van de Kamp - Hodge, who wanted to divest herself
of her increasingly flaky hubby Orson (Kyle McLachlan) while holding onto
all her assets.
True to Susan's word, Karl quickly cooks up a scheme to get Orson out
of Bree's life with an absolute minimum of her assets. The madcap shenanigans
include film noiresque rendezvouses, ski-mask outfitted breakins, secret
storage lockers crammed with nicked objets d'art, and a contretemps
with a hired thug to spur old Orson along.
Through it all, Karl finds himself increasingly drawn to Bree, a woman
he suddenly finds intriguing and intoxicating, and Bree is likewise drawn
to Karl -- surely a major case of "opposties attract."
Naturally, the divorce proceedings run aground when Orson catches wind
of the storage unit full of household wares. Bree, unwilling to push
the issue any further, sacks Karl, which frees them both of any issues
of client-lawyer legal impropriety. As Season 5 comes to a close,
we see Karl and Bree sharing seductive glances at yet another Delfino (Jamie
Denton) wedding.
Season 6, now in production at Universal Studios, will see Karl and
Bree's unlikely romance continue to blossom across at least 10 episodes.

[30 Jul 09] *** Richard
plays father of the bride in limited-run CBS series "Harper's Island" ***
-- Richard joined the cast of the 13-episode CBS midseason series "Harper's
Island" in early August 2008, playing Thomas Wellington. Real
estate mogul Wellington is the father of bride-to-be
Trish ("Supernatural's"
Katie Cassidy), whose "destination wedding" brings the characters together
on picturesque Harper's Island, where the wealthy Wellingtons spent her
childhood summers.
The show premiered at 10:00pm ET on Thursday, April 9th and later
moved to a Saturday evening berth, where it remained until the show's July
11th 2-hour finale.
Also featured in the cast are Jim Beaver ("Supernatural"), Elaine
Cassidy, Christopher Gorham ("Ugly Betty"), Cameron Richardson ("Point
Pleasant"), and Harry Hamlin ("L.A. Law," "Veronica Mars"). "Harper's
Island" was created by Ari Schlossberg and executive produced by
Jon Turteltaub, with Jeffrey Bell serving as showrunner.
CBS gave the following brief description of the show:
"The new drama, HARPER'S ISLAND, is a murder mystery that unfolds as
friends and family attend week-long festivities at a destination wedding
on a secluded and picturesque island off the coast of Seattle, infamous
for a homicidal maniac's rampage seven years ago."

[30 Jul 09] *** Catch Richard Burgi
on SHO Networks when "Hostel: Part II" plays on various Showtime
channels in July and August***
-- Richard worked in Prague, Czech Republic
in late October 2006 on the much-anticipated sequel to writer-director
Eli
Roth's
horror blockbuster, "Hostel."
Eli Roth gave MTV.com some teasing details on "Hostel: Part II,"
including an idea of how Richard's character Todd Rogers and his
buddy
Stuart (Roger Bart) McGenty fit into the overall story.
Said Roth:
"The film is also following two guys who go through this experience
to kill somebody. And we know them really well, and they are very, very
likeable and they're very normal. It seems like there's nothing psycho
about them, except they are looking for some excitement in their life because
they are bored. ... That's going to be a parallel story. We see it
from the girl's perspective and we see it from the client's perspective.
We inter-cut both stories until they all meet in this horrible place. So,
we're going to learn everything about the organization, all the minutiae
of it..."
Showtime's late July and early August airdates are as follows:
Showtime Beyond -- Thursday, Jul 30th at 2:24am ET
TMC Xtra -- Friday, Jul 31st at 1:35am ET
Showtime Extreme -- Tuseday, Aug 4th at 11:45pm ET
Showtime 2 -- Saturday, Aug 8th at 10:25pm ET

[30 Jul 09]*** "The Sentinel" returns
SyFy, as the Sci Fi Channel is now known, for July 30th and August 26th
daytime marathons ***-- The Sci Fi Channel -- now known as SyFy
--
is airing an 8-episode, second-season "Marathon" block of "The Sentinel"
from 8:00am to 4:00pm ET on Thursday, July 30th, with an additional
8-episode second-season marathon block airing from 8:00am to 4:00pm
ET on Wednesday, August 26th.
Richard Burgi plays series lead Jim Ellison, a former
Army Ranger now working as a detective for the Cascade PD in his Washington
State hometown. Ellison finds himself almost overwhelmed when his dormant,
and repressed, hyperactive senses are brought back online after a period
of solitude on a remote stakeout. Anthropology doctoral candidate Blair
Sandburg (Garett Maggart), whose chosen field of research is "Sentinels"
-- people with such enhanced senses -- has the answers Ellison needs to
control and work with his powerful and unpredictable abilities. Ellison's
long-suffering captain, Simon Banks (Bruce A. Young) helps Ellison
and Sandburg make the most of Ellison's sensory advantage by watching their
backs and keeping their extrasensory escapades under the radar as much
as possible.

[30 Jul 09]*** Catch Richard as
William Shaw in DARKLIGHT, airing on SyFy on August 21st *** -- --
Richard spent several weeks of summer 2003 in Sofia, Bulgaria working
on "Darklight," part of SciFi's 2004-2005 movie lineup. Though still airing
on SyFy, the film is also available on DVD. (Amazon purchase info at bottom
of News page).
SyFy's original blurb gives the following description of the film:
"A secret society fights evil with evil in this atmospheric original
thriller.
Shiri Appleby (TV's Roswell), Richard Burgi (The Sentinel, SCI FI
Pictures' Decoys), John de Lancie (Q from the Star Trek franchise) and
David Hewlett (Stargate Atlantis, SCi Fi Pictures' Boa vs. Python, the
indie hit Cube) star in this tale of an ancient demoness named Lilith,
who has been captured by a secret society known as The Faith.
Her true nature concealed by a powerful spell, Lilith lives as a 24-year-old
woman with no memory of her ageless past -- until William Shaw (Burgi)
of The Faith recruits her to help him stop the Demonicos, a rampaging monster
that is spreading a lethal plague across the Earth and whose only vulnerability
is to Lilith's unique mystical power, known as Darklight.
As the duo race to slay the creature, they unwittingly expose a treacherous
conspiracy within The Faith itself. Lilith has the power to set things
right -- but now she has been reawakened to her true nature, will she resume
her own evil ways? Trusting her is a life-or-death gamble for humanity,
but it's one that William Shaw has no choice but to take."

[30 Jul 09] *** Catch Richard as
Officer Bracke on "Friday the 13th Extended Killer Cut" DVD *** --
Look for some additional Burgi footage in the "Extended Killer Cut" DVD,
which was released on June 16th. Richard appears in at least
one deleted scene, set in the Crystal Lake Sheriff's office.
Richard joined
Jared Padalecki ("Supernatural," "Thomas Kinkade's
Christmas Cottage"),
Derek Mears ("The Hills have Eyes II"), and
Nana
Visitor ("Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"), among others, in the
Platinum
Dunes produced reimagining of the 1980's horror hit, "Friday the
13th."
Richard plays Officer Bracke in the movie, which is set between
the events of the first and second "Friday the 13th" films; Pamela (Nana
Visitor) Voorhees, Jason's mad, mad mother and the actual killer of
the first film, is dead and already enshrined in Jason's (Derek Mears)
hovel hideaway, while Jason is all grown up and ready to take up his mother's
machete.
Jared Padalecki plays Clay Miller, a journalist drawn to Camp
Crystal Lake in search of his missing sister; Richard's Bracke represents
the long arm of the Law in the Crystal Lake area and, while sympathetic,
cannot offer Clay further help with the unsubstantiated disappearances.
As one would expect in a "Friday the 13th" story, the cast is fleshed
out with a selection of young people destined to run afoul of Jason Voorhees
as they scramble about the ramshackle remains of Camp Crystal Lake and
engage in impromptu bawdy romps at their host's nearby lakeside manse.
The film premiered in theaters on Friday, February 13th, 2009, and launched
on DVD in June. It is now available at retailers and online through
Amazon.com, where it currently sells for $17.49 (ASIN B001NPD9LS)

[30 Jul 09]*** Catch Richard as Jack Hurst
in KNIGHT RIDER Season 1 DVD set *** -- The KNIGHT RIDER - Season
One DVD set hit the market on July 28th and is now available at various
retailers and online merchants. (The 4-disc DVD set is currently selling
at Amazon.com for $41.99 -- ASIN B0024FAD7Y)
Richard spent a long weekend in late October '08 in Hawaii working
on "Knight to King's Pawn," the 12th episode of NBC's now-canceled
"Knight Rider" series. Based on the hit 1980's original, the new series
followed the exploits of Michael Traceur (Justin Bruening) and the
latest version of KITT, this time embodied in a hot Ford Mustang and voiced
by Val Kilmer.
In addition to Bruening, the cast included Deanna Russo (Sarah),
Paul Campbell (Billy), Smith Cho (Zoe), Sydney Poitier, Yancey Arias,
and Bruce Davison. However, Poitier, Arias, and Davison all
left the show at the end of the initial 13-episode order; while NBC commissioned
a full season's worth of episodes, the "back eight" or so featured a trimmed-down
cast and storylines which were to cleave closer to the spirit of the 1980's
original.
Richard's episode, "Knight to King's Pawn" -- Episode 1.12 -- featured
Richard as Jack Hurst, an NSA commander with intimate knowledge
of the KITT program. Hurst storms in and shuts down the SSC, removing KITT's
chip and stealing his 'body' for his own unsavory purposes. Also
referred to as "The KARR episode," "Knight to King's Pawn" features the
return of KITT's nemesis, the amoral and murderous KARR first featured
in the original series.

[30 Jul 09]*** Catch Richard in six episodes
of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES on the Complete Fifth Season DVD Set *** -- Beginning
with "We're So Happy You're So Happy," Richard also appears in "A Spark.
To Pierce the Dark," "Bargaining," "Marry Me a Little," "Everybody Says
Don't," and "If It's Only In Your Head."
While the first episode is just a quick scene showing Karl needling
Susan (Teri Hatcher) about Jackson (Gale Harold), the later
five episodes are meatier and begin by presenting Karl as a recently-separated
father whose young son's maternal abandonment issues lead to dark and bloodthirsty
artwork. Wee Evan's plight leads into the more long-term Karl story
arc wherein Karl's profession -- cut-throat and effective divorce lawyer
-- brings fiery and spontaneous Karl together with cool and reserved Bree
(Marcia Cross), who is eager to be rid of her increasingly difficult
husband, Orson (Kyle MacLachlan).
While Karl's "whatever it takes to win" approach divorce immediately
conflicts with Bree's ideas of propriety, they find themselves drawn irresistably
to each other. Orson's discovery of the plot and Bree's decision to halt
the divorce proceedings frees Karl to pursue her romantically, setting
the groundwork for their impending Season Six affair.
The 7-disc DVD set is currently available online for pre-order and is
due to be released on September 1st. The list price of $59.99 is
currently discounted to a pre-order price $38.99 at Amazon.com.

[30 Jul 09]*** Catch Richard in first five
episodes of HARPER'S ISLAND Complete Series DVD set *** -- HARPER'S ISLAND:
The DVD Edition is due to hit stores and online retailers on September
8th. The 4-disc set will sell at Amazon.com for $29.99 (ASIN B001G0MFE2)
Richard plays Thomas Wellington, real estate mogul and Father
of the Bride (Trish, played by Katie Cassidy). He appears in the
show's first five episodes (six, if you count a quick glimpse of
his bloodied corpse) and, it turns out, was the only cast-member besides
Harry
Hamlin who knew from the start of production how long his tenure would
be. (Richard worked on the Vancouver, BC-based series from August
through October of 2008).
Executive Producer Karim Zreik revealed an interesting Wellington
character detail in his TWOP blog; it turns out that Thomas Wellington
was broke, in financial ruin, and that seeming trophy wife Katherine
(Claudette Mink) was actually funding the wedding. This detail
is possibly one of many regarding the Wellington clan that never made it
into an aired episode; based on descriptive information on son-in-law Richard
(David Lewis), it seems likely he harbored great animosity towards
the domineering Wellington paterfamilias and may have somehow engineered
the financial fall from grace.

We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be
sent to Richard's home address! Receiving fan mail through his
home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially
from the standpoint of privacy and safety. If you have come across
what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it! We
-- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us
know where you came across the address by using this e-mail
link to the RBFC.
While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded
to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts
be sent to him. Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity
those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming. Richard
would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to
a local children's shelter or literacy program, or to the Pacific
Marine Mammal Center .
