[05/10/01] *** Richard films role in new FOX pilot, "24" *** -- Richard, cast as newly-divorced father Alan York, recently filmed the pilot for "24," a groundbreaking drama series intended for the FOX Network.  Keifer Sutherland heads the cast of the "real time" show, so called because its 24 hour-long episodes will cover a single day -- 24 hours.

Keifer Sutherland plays the part of a CIA agent who has 24 hours to stop an assassination, while Richard -- aided by Sutherland's on-screen wife -- searches for their two missing daughters.  (The girls, best friends, have disappeared). The series will build to its climactic finish in episode 24 -- "zero hour," so to speak.

At present "24" is but one of several drama pilots awaiting FOX's pleasure; as most networks announce their new Fall lineups in late May, we should soon know whether "24" has been picked up for Fall 2001.

RB in Twice in a Lifetime [05/10/01] *** Watch for Richard's episode of "Twice in a Lifetime" when it repeats on PAX in the USA  -- Saturday, May 19th at 11:00pm ET/PT  *** Richard appears in the episode titled "Knockout."  The TV Grid listing had this to say:

Knockout -- A boxing champion (guest star Richard Burgi) who became a homeless alcoholic after killing his adoptive brother in the ring gets another shot -- at life.  With Paul Popowich. (Photo -- Paul Popowich and Richard Burgi).

The show itself, an hour-long drama with a redemptive theme, is described by TVGuide in these terms: "An angel [Paul Popowich] ushers people who've just had near-death experiences back in time to revisit a pivotal decision that changed their lives."  What TVguide did not mention is that these ne'er-do-wells die, but are actually given the chance to change their pasts and get a second chance at life -- if they can convince their younger selves to chose a different path when the "pivotal decision" is made.

Both the PAX and the CTV websites list information on "Twice in a Lifetime," with the PAX website offering a more detailed look at the show, the characters, the cast, and the episodes.

RB on VC[05/10/01] *** Catch Richard on "Veronica's Closet" on the USA Network *** -- Wednesday, May 30th at 9:30 am ET/PT. Richard plays the part of Mark, Veronica's (Kirstie Alley) new boyfriend. Veronica isn't happy to learn that Mark dated coworker and friend Olive (Kathy Najimy) in college and is even less amused when she discovers Mark's memento of his time with Olive -- a tattooed portrait of Olive which covers half his chest.

At first put off by the unsettling tattoo but unwilling to dump Mark over something so superficial, Veronica again tries for a romantic evening, only to have her imagination supply the tattoo with Olive's moving mouth and taunting commentary. Refusing to accept defeat, Veronica has Mark keep his shirt on for the remainder of the evening. All is well until, basking in the afterglow, Veronica turns to find Olive beside her, in Mark's clothes and speaking with his voice. The tattoo wins and Mark is sent packing.

RB as Captain Hunter
[05/10/01] *** Richard Burgi appearing on CBS's "The District" -- Saturdays at 10pm ET/PT. ***

Mannion and Hunter on the job[05/10/01]  **Latest "District" News** -- "The District" has wrapped production on its Freshman season with a total of 23 episodes.  As the show has been a ratings success for CBS, usually winning its hour every Saturday, "The District" will more than likely be back next season.

With only the two-part season finale left to air -- part one on May 12th and part two on May 19th -- we have more than likely seen all of Richard's episodes for this season (unless he is in the finale, which we have not been able to confirm). Of Richard's seven episodes, four have not yet repeated; they are:

  • "The Santa Wars" -- episode 1.10
  • "The D.C. Strangler" -- episode 1.11
  • "The Agony and the Ecstasy" -- episode 1.19
  • "Running Towards Fire" -- episode 1.20
This would be a great time to send CBS some feedback on "The District" and Captain Hunter -- let them know you've enjoyed seeing Richard on their show and would enjoy seeing even more of him in the Fall 2001 season.  Simply visit the CBS website's "District" page and use the feedback link.

Richard's episodes to date (Note: the pilot is designated as episode '1.00')

  • "Running Towards Fire" -- episode 1.20 -- Saturday, April 28, 10pm ET/PT (aired as scheduled)
"The District," new for Fall 2000 on CBS, is set in Washington, DC and focuses on DC's new Police Commissioner Jack Mannion, played by Craig T. Nelson ("Poltergeist," "Coach").  Mannion is, according to the CBS website, "brought in to overhaul an antiquated system ill-equipped to deal with the problems of a sprawling, crime-ridden city.  As much a friend to ordinary citizens as to high-ranking politicians, Mannion has quite a task ahead of him.  He immediately selects the most promising officers around him to become his circle of aids.  Mannion and this group of modern-day "Untouchables" set out to bring order to the District and to clamp down on the crime in America's capital."

Richard plays the recurring role of Captain Vincent Hunter, head of the Internal Affairs division.

RB in TS, JSM, and Providence[03/31/01] *** Burgi Bonanza for German viewers ***  -- "The Sentinel" returns to Germany's Premiere World starting April 19th.  Richard's Jim Ellison brings "extra-sensory protection" back to German TV with two episodes a day, Monday through Friday.  The first showing will be at 18:00 (5pm) with a repeat the following morning at 9am.

Also airing on Premiere World in April is Richard's episode of "Just Shoot Me," Mum's the Word.   Just Shoot Me is airing on Sundays at 21:50 (10:50pm), with Richard's episode probably airing on  April 24th or 25th.

Richard will soon be appearing  in "Providence" on RTL in the episode "The Apartment," (episode #2.14) playing Dr. J.D. Scanlon, Syd Hansen's (Melina Kanakaredes) new neighbor and love interest.

When Syd decides she needs to strike out on her own by moving into her own place, one of the first people she meets at her seemingly idyllic new home is Dr. J.D. Scanlon, a handsome and charismatic professor of Anthropology.  J.D. easily sweeps Syd off her feet and enchants her with tales of his many experiences doing field research in Africa.  Along the way, J.D. strives to convince Syd she needs a mentor -- him -- and that she needs to break away from her family.  Unfortunately, Syd's family has other ideas, derailing a romantic interlude planned by J.D.  He gives Syd an ultimatum of sorts -- he won't date her as long as she is so tightly bound to her family.  When Syd realizes J.D., for all his talk of independence from family, is just as tightly bound to his new family -- the building's other tenants -- she calls him on it and moves back home.

[01/30/01] *** Write to Richard care of the RBFC! *** -- Richard has asked us to encourage anyone interested in sending cards or letters to him to use the RBFC mailing address, which is listed below.  This allows Richard to better handle his incoming mail, which he certainly enjoys receiving, provided it comes through appropriate channels.

Mr. Richard Burgi
10153 1/2 Riverside Drive, #494
Toluca Lake, CA 91602

We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be sent to Richard's home address!  Receiving fan mail through his home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially from the standpoint of privacy and safety.  If you have come across what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it!  We -- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us know where you came across the address by using this e-mail link to the RBFC.

While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts be sent to him.  Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming.  Richard would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to a local children's shelter or literacy program.

[08/14/00] ** "Wild Thornberrys" update ** -- Look for Richard's episode of the popular Nickelodeon animated series this Fall.  Richard -- who took the part because "Wild Thornberrys" is one of his son's favorite shows -- voices a nefarious poacher who tangles with Eliza Thornberry and her eccentric family.

To learn more about "Wild Thornberrys," visit their page on Nickelodeon's website at

(Thanks to Carla for the update)
