**New Episode Update -- "Running Towards Fire" ** -- Richard's latest episode of "The District" is due to air in early April. Titled "Running Towards Fire," Richard's sixth outing as Captain Vincent Hunter could air as early as April 7th, according to the CBS website. The TVGuide Online listing had this to say about the episode:
"Mannion investigates when an off-duty white police officer (James Parks) shoots an African-American undercover cop (Erik King) in the back during a stakeout" (The cast listing includes Richard as Capt. Hunter).
This would be a great time to send CBS some feedback on "The District" and Captain Hunter -- let them know you've enjoyed seeing Richard on their show and would enjoy seeing even more of him in the Fall 2001 season. Simply visit the CBS website's "District" page and use the feedback link.

[03/31/01] *** Burgi Bonanza for German viewers *** -- "The Sentinel" returns to Germany's Premiere World starting April 19th. Richard's Jim Ellison brings "extra-sensory protection" back to German TV with two episodes a day, Monday through Friday. The first showing will be at 18:00 (5pm) with a repeat the following morning at 9am.
Also airing on Premiere World in April is Richard's episode of "Just Shoot Me," Mum's the Word, which is titled Wenn Maenner luegen (when men lie) in German. (We're assuming the German title refers to the Maya/Elliott side of the episode's A/B story-line). Just Shoot Me is airing on Sundays at 21:50 (10:50pm), with Richard's episode probably airing on April 24th or 25th.
Richard will soon be appearing in "Providence" on RTL in the episode "The Apartment," (episode #2.14) playing Dr. J.D. Scanlon, Syd Hansen's (Melina Kanakaredes) new neighbor and love interest.
When Syd decides she needs to strike out on her own by moving into her own place, one of the first people she meets at her seemingly idyllic new home is Dr. J.D. Scanlon, a handsome and charismatic professor of Anthropology. J.D. easily sweeps Syd off her feet and enchants her with tales of his many experiences doing field research in Africa. Along the way, J.D. strives to convince Syd she needs a mentor -- him -- and that she needs to break away from her family. Unfortunately, Syd's family has other ideas, derailing a romantic interlude planned by J.D. He gives Syd an ultimatum of sorts -- he won't date her as long as she is so tightly bound to her family. When Syd realizes J.D., for all his talk of independence from family, is just as tightly bound to his new family -- the building's other tenants -- she calls him on it and moves back home.

[03/31/01] *** Richard appeared briefly in "Bailey's Mistake," the Wonderful World of Disney feature on ABC -- Sunday, March 18th at 7pm ET/PT *** The long-awaited broadcast premiere of "Bailey's Mistake" was recently announced on the ABC and Disney websites. Disney's writeup on the made-for-tv movie can be found at the following web address: http://disney.go.com/wwod/features/baileysmistake/index.html
Richard joined Linda Hamilton ("Terminator," "Beauty and the Beast"), Joan Plowright ("Dinosaur," "Avalon,") and Kyle Secor ("Homicide: Life on the Street") on the project, which was filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada in June 2000.
Slated for the 2000-2001 season, "Bailey's Mistake" was described on the zap2it.com website as "laced with romantic longing, wistful memories, quirky humor and fantasy." Richard played Paul Donovan, husband of Linda Hamilton's Liz Donovan, and father of their two children. Liz is widowed when Paul -- an adventurous soul -- explores a cave while out hiking; he is mysteriously killed, and Liz's heartbreak is compounded a week later when she discovers that Paul had secretly used their savings to buy land on a small Maine island. [When broadcast, this version of Paul's untimely death had been replaced with a more mundane -- and only mentioned in dialogue -- death from a heart-attack while out on a two-mile run].
Liz, still grieving for Paul and feeling betrayed by him, decides to visit the island and sell the property, taking their two children with her. Bailey's Mistake, as the island is named, is not what she expects -- nor are the people they encounter, a group which includes an assortment of colorful folk claiming to be Paul's long-lost relatives.
Richard's character, Paul Donovan, was only seen briefly in the movie in a pair of dream flashbacks and a pair of ghostly visitations to his son (flying through the air in one such appearance -- see image above). Though more footage appears to have been shot -- the cave exploration mentioned in the "zap2it" article features in one of Liz Donovan's dreams -- Disney/Touchstone apparently decided to pare Paul's on-screen time down to some extent.

[03/31/01] *** Richard's "Touched by an Angel" to air on PAX in April -- Friday, April 20th at 9pm ET/PT *** Watch for Richard as Uncle Frank in the episode "Fighting the Good Fight."
A young boxer, Tim, and his brother live in desperate poverty in the inner city and are often mistreated by their self-centered uncle. When Tim's elder brothers becomes ill with a serious disease, Tim adopts an aggressive stance against the world in order to appear tough in the face of his brother's illness. He trains as a boxer to escape his troubles, but misuses his boxing skills by initiating a string of fights with local hoodlums that puts him on the road to ruin. Tess and Tim's idol, Muhammad Ali, are called upon to teach the confused young man that violence accomplishes nothing and that his energy should be spent strengthening familial bonds.
Guest Starring: Muhammad Ali guest stars as himself, a legendary
boxer who comes to the aid of the youth who is misusing his boxing skills.
Burgi (The Sentinel) guest stars as the abusive uncle of the confused
young boxer. Alexis Cruz returns in his recurring role as streetwise
angel Rafael. (E-mail CBS

on Richard's role).
[03/31/01] *** Watch for Richard's episode of "Twice in a Lifetime" when it repeats on PAX in the USA and CTV in Canada -- date and time TBA *** Richard appears in the episode titled "Knockout." The TVGrid listing had this to say:
Knockout -- a boxing champion (guest star Richard Burgi) who became a homeless alcoholic after killing his adoptive brother in the ring gets another shot -- at life. With Paul Popowich. (Photo -- Paul Popowich and Richard Burgi).
The show itself, an hour-long drama with a redemptive theme, is described by TVGuide in these terms: "An angel [Paul Popowich] ushers people who've just had near-death experiences back in time to revisit a pivotal decision that changed their lives." What TVguide did not mention is that these ne'er-do-wells die, but are actually given the chance to change their pasts and get a second chance at life -- if they can convince their younger selves to chose a different path when the "pivotal decision" is made.
Both the PAX and the CTV websites list information on "Twice in a Lifetime," with the PAX website offering a more detailed look at the show, the characters, the cast, and the episodes.

[01/30/01] *** Write to Richard care of the RBFC! *** -- Richard has asked us to encourage anyone interested in sending cards or letters to him to use the RBFC mailing address, which is listed below. This allows Richard to better handle his incoming mail, which he certainly enjoys receiving, provided it comes through appropriate channels.
Mr. Richard Burgi
We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be sent to Richard's home address! Receiving fan mail through his home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially from the standpoint of privacy and safety. If you have come across what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it! We -- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us know where you came across the address by using this e-mail link to the RBFC.
While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts be sent to him. Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming. Richard would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to a local children's shelter or literacy program.
