RB as Captain Hunter

[03/12/01] *** Richard Burgi appearing on CBS's "The District" -- Saturdays at 10pm ET/PT. ***

RB as Hunter** RERUN UPDATE ** -- "How They Lived" to repeat on CBS March 17th at 10pm ET/PT.  One of Richard's more prominent appearances as IA Captain Hunter.  TVGuide has this to say:

"Mannion's harsh discipline of several officers caught stealing on the job leads to a massive case of 'blue flu' among the rest of the force. Unfortunately, they are needed for riot control because Fidel Castro is visiting the city along with a Cuban admiral who bombed a flotilla of exiles. Also, Ella's custody case comes to an end."

For the trivia buffs: Thanks to Linda Maclaren's tireless research, we can now list Hunter's first name -- Vincent.

***NEW EPISODE UPDATE*** -- Richard to appear in sixth episode of "The District" as Captain Hunter. Richard has been called back to film an additional episode of the hit CBS drama.  Filming is due to start the week of February 26th; at present we do not know the name of this latest episode. Look for the episode to air towards the end of the "first run" season -- late April or May.

This would be a great time to send CBS some feedback on "The District" and Captain Hunter -- let them know you've enjoyed seeing Richard on their show and would enjoy seeing even more of him in the Fall 2001 season.  Simply visit the CBS website's "District" page and use the feedback link.

"The District," new for Fall 2000 on CBS, is set in Washington, DC and focuses on DC's new Police Commissioner Jack Mannion, played by Craig T. Nelson ("Poltergeist," "Coach").  Mannion is, according to the CBS website, "brought in to overhaul an antiquated system ill-equipped to deal with the problems of a sprawling, crime-ridden city.  As much a friend to ordinary citizens as to high-ranking politicians, Mannion has quite a task ahead of him.  He immediately selects the most promising officers around him to become his circle of aids.  Mannion and this group of modern-day "Untouchables" set out to bring order to the District and to clamp down on the crime in America's capital."

Richard joins the cast in the recurring role of Captain Vincent Hunter, a detective working for Internal Affairs.

[03/12/01] *** Look for Richard in "Bailey's Mistake," the Wonderful World of Disney feature on ABC -- Sunday, March 18th at 7pm ET/PT ***  The long-awaited broadcast premiere of "Bailey's Mistake" was recently
announced on the ABC and Disney websites. Disney's writeup on the made-for-tv movie can be found at the following web address:

Richard joined Linda Hamilton ("Terminator," "Beauty and the Beast"),  Joan Plowright ("Dinosaur," "Avalon,") and Kyle Secor ("Homicide: Life on the Street") on the project, which was filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada in June 2000.

Slated for the 2000-2001 season, "Bailey's Mistake" was described on the website as "laced with romantic longing, wistful memories, quirky humor and fantasy." Richard plays Paul Donovan, husband of Linda Hamilton's Liz Donovan, and father of their two children.  Liz is widowed when Paul -- an adventurous soul -- explores a cave while out hiking; he is mysteriously killed, and Liz's heartbreak is compounded a week later when she discovers that Paul had secretly used their savings to buy land on a small Maine island.

Liz, still grieving for Paul and feeling betrayed by him, decides to visit the island and sell the property, taking their two children with her.  Bailey's Mistake, as the island is named, is not what she expects -- nor are the people they encounter, a group which includes an assortment of colorful folk claiming to be Paul's long-lost relatives.

As the death of Richard's character, Paul, sets the movie plot in motion, it is possible he will only be seen early on, and
briefly, unless a number of flashback scenes are used to flesh out Paul's part in the unfolding events of "Bailey's Mistake."

RB as Nick Farrell[03/13/01] *** Richard's "I Married A Monster" to air in March on Australia's Foxtel *** -- Check your local listings for date and time.  Richard plays insurance salesman Nick Farrell in the 1998 made-for-tv remake of the fifties cult classic, "I Married a Monster From Outer Space."

"I Married a Monster" helped launch UPN's Fall 1998 "movie Thursday."  The general idea was to feature UPN series lead actors in made-for-tv movies; "Star Trek: Voyager's" Kate (Kathryn Janeway) Mulgrew also appeared in a Thursday night feature.  Richard's outing as Nick Farrell was filmed in early summer of 1998 in San Diego, California.

On the eve of his wedding to hometown sweetheart Kelly Drummond (Susan Walters), Nick Farrell runs afoul of a glowing ball of energy which hides a ship-load of aliens desperate to repopulate their species.  To carry out their repopulation program, the aliens need the women of Blue Falls -- which means they first have to waylay the men.

Kelly is confused and upset by Nick's inexplicable behavior, at first attributing it to wedding jitters.  When other men begin acting strangely as well, Kelly realizes something sinister is going on and decides to get to the bottom of it.  Question is, can she do so, and find out what has happened to Nick and their friends, before the aliens complete their scheme?

RB in Twice in a Lifetime[03/12/01] *** Watch for Richard's episode of "Twice in a Lifetime" when it repeats on PAX in the USA and CTV in Canada -- date and time TBA *** Richard appears in the episode titled "Knockout."  The TVGrid listing had this to say:

Knockout -- a boxing champion (guest star Richard Burgi) who became a homeless alcoholic after killing his adoptive brother in the ring gets another shot -- at life.  With Paul Popowich. (Photo -- Paul Popowich and Richard Burgi).

The show itself, an hour-long drama with a redemptive theme, is described by TVGuide in these terms: "An angel [Paul Popowich] ushers people who've just had near-death experiences back in time to revisit a pivotal decision that changed their lives."  What TVguide did not mention is that these ne'er-do-wells die, but are actually given the chance to change their pasts and get a second chance at life -- if they can convince their younger selves to chose a different path when the "pivotal decision" is made.

Both the PAX and the CTV websites list information on "Twice in a Lifetime," with the PAX website offering a more detailed look at the show, the characters, the cast, and the episodes.

RB as J.D. Scanlon[11/06/00] *** "Providence" to air in Germany *** -- German fans will soon be able to watch (and record) Richard's episode of "Providence" on German television.

"Providence" begins airing on RTL on November 5th.  Richard appears in "Providence" in the episode "The Apartment," (episode #2.14) playing Dr. J.D. Scanlon, Syd Hansen's (Melina Kanakaredes) new neighbor and love interest.

When Syd decides she needs to strike out on her own by moving into her own place, one of the first people she meets at her seemingly idyllic new home is Dr. J.D. Scanlon, a handsome and charismatic professor of Anthropology.  J.D. easily sweeps Syd off her feet and enchants her with tales of his many experiences doing field research in Africa.  Along the way, J.D. strives to convince Syd she needs a mentor -- him -- and that she needs to break away from her family.  Unfortunately, Syd's family has other ideas, derailing a romantic interlude planned by J.D.

J.D. gives Syd an ultimatum of sorts -- he won't date her as long as she is so tightly bound to her family.  When Syd realizes J.D., for all his talk of independence from family, is just as tightly bound to his new family -- the building's other tenants -- she calls him on it and moves back home.

[01/30/01] *** Write to Richard care of the RBFC! *** -- Richard has asked us to encourage anyone interested in sending cards or letters to him to use the RBFC mailing address, which is listed below.  This allows Richard to better handle his incoming mail, which he certainly enjoys receiving, provided it comes through appropriate channels.

Mr. Richard Burgi
10153 1/2 Riverside Drive, #494
Toluca Lake, CA 91602

We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be sent to Richard's home address!  Receiving fan mail through his home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially from the standpoint of privacy and safety.  If you have come across what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it!  We -- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us know where you came across the address by using this e-mail link to the RBFC.

While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts be sent to him.  Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming.  Richard would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to a local children's shelter or literacy program.

[08/14/00] ** "Wild Thornberrys" update ** -- Look for Richard's episode of the popular Nickelodeon animated series this Fall.  Richard -- who took the part because "Wild Thornberrys" is one of his son's favorite shows -- voices a nefarious poacher who tangles with Eliza Thornberry and her eccentric family.
