***UPDATE*** -- "The District" has proven to be a breakout hit for CBS, leading to a full season order of episodes. Richard has filmed a total of five episodes for the 2000-2001 season (which are listed below). Though the season has not yet finished filming, Richard does not expect to appear in additional episodes this season, as the show's producers will be concentrating on their main character ensemble. Though Richard was on call for episode 12 -- "Old Ghosts" in the production sequence -- Captain Hunter was not included in the episode, which focused on detective McGregor's past conflicts with a Sinn Fein negotiator. (An earlier episode included a scene between Hunter and McGregor which revealed Hunter's knowledge of McGregor's Belfast background; this probably would have factored into "Old Ghosts" had Hunter been written into the final script). This would be a great time to send CBS some feedback on "The District" and Captain Hunter -- let them know you've enjoyed seeing Richard on their show and would enjoy seeing even more of him in the Fall 2001 season. *** Richard's episode of "Matlock" to air on Cable's WGN -- Wednesday,
January 31st at 5am and 12pm ET -- and on TBS Thursday, March
1st at 12pm Eastern*** Watch for Richard in Matlock's "The
Dame" as ne'er-do-well piano player and ladies' man Roger Stratford.
"The Dame," set in Ben Matlock's (Andy Griffith) youth, is precipitated
by an elegant older woman confronting Ben in a restaurant and slapping
him across the face. As Ben strolls down "memory lane," the picture
shifts to black and white.
The story revolves around a young wife of a wealthy but older husband who convinces her young lover -- Roger -- to help her murder the unfortunate husband. Naturally, the lovers' carefully-schemed and orchestrated murder and cover-up begins to fall apart under the unrelenting scrutiny of Matlock Senior, resulting eventually in the calculating widow attempting to save her own neck by setting Stratford up to "take the fall." Ben Matlock's sleuthing father figures out that Roger and the murderous widow concocted and carried out the murder together, with the widow later setting her hapless lover up for the killing. Stratford's eventual fate is not mentioned, though it is safe to assume he was tried and convicted for his part in the murder scheme. *** Watch for Richard in the episode "Tony Micelli, This is
Your Life," as baseball superstar Mike Va Salle.
Tony (Tony Danza) is visited by old baseball team-member Mike Va Salle, who -- through a twist of fate -- went on to baseball fame and fortune while Tony left the game and found his way, eventually, to the Bower household. Tony, with the aid of his "guardian angel" coach (played by Brandon Maggart, father of "Sentinel" costar Garett Maggart), is given a chance to see what his life would have been like if he, rather than Va Salle, had made the game-winning play and gone on to baseball superstardom. Cassidy -- suave, sophisticated, unscrupulous and amoral business tycoon
and head of "The Outfit," Metro City's version of organized crime.
Filmed in Toronto, Ontario in 1993, and starring James McCaffrey as Joe Astor, driver of Metro City's secret "Defender" supercar, the first season's 13 episodes were produced for NBC. When the series was revived for first-run syndication in 1996, it was moved to Vancouver and eventually joined Pet Fly Productions stablemate "The Sentinel" at Paramount's Bentall Street facility. Richard's airdates are as follows:
"The Sentinel" was described as a combo sci-fi and police drama. This hour-long series aired on UPN from 1996 to 1999. It starred Richard Burgi as a police detective who had acquired extrasensory skills during an 18-month period of having survived a crash in the Peruvian jungle. Because of his extraordinary senses, some called him a "human crime lab." Naturally, it came in very handy in his detective work, except that he couldn't control when these senses would suddenly "turn on," and it was during those episodes that he became physically vulnerable. What was the name of this leading man who was the sentinel? The answer was posted the following day: TODAY'S TIP: I SMELL A SENTINEL Answer to our previous question: Last time we asked you to name the character, the man they called the Sentinel, on the show of the same name. "The Sentinel" was described as a combo sci-fi and police drama. This hour-long series aired on UPN from 1996 to 1999. It starred Richard Burgi as a police detective who had acquired extrasensory skills during an 18-month period of having survived a crash in the Peruvian jungle. So what was the name of the leading man who was the sentinel? It was Detective Jim Ellison. The show was actually not renewed by UPN for 1999; it was only because of viewer letters and complaints that UPN brought it back for another round of shows, which put a resolution to the cliffhanger left at the close of the '98 season. Richard plays Robert Gallatin, Hollywood action hero and star of the popular TV show "The Nomad," and passing fancy for fashion editor Nina Van Horne (Wendie Malick). Unfortunately, Robert has a close attachment to his mother, which complicates his amorous pursuit of Nina. The episode has an 'A/B' story-line, which also focuses on Maya (Laura San Giacomo) trying to get to the bottom of Elliot's (Enrico Colantoni ) refusal to take part in the electoral process. Richard's episode, the fourth filmed for Fall 2000, is titled "Mum's the Word," and aired the week before the election on Thursday, October 26th at 9:30pm ET/PT. Remember, "Mum's the Word" will air again when "Just Shoot Me" enters its first rerun cycle, probably during the holiday season. [11/06/00] *** "Action" and "Providence" to air in Germany *** -- German fans will soon be able to watch (and record) Richard's episodes of "Action" and "Providence" on German television.
We are introduced to Cole at the premiere party for Dragon's latest film, "Slow Torture," which -- unfortunately -- proves to be slow torture for Dragon and his financial backers. Finding himself suddenly on the brink of ruin, Dragon hustles to find a suitable script and movie on which to pin his hopes for renewed success -- "Beverly Hills Gun Club."
Convinced the announcement that his leading man is gay will scuttle "Beverly Hills Gun Club," Peter opts for some fast and underhanded maneuvering, telling Cole that coming out is not in his best interest -- and convincing him by announcing that he, himself, is also gay. Cole gets the wrong idea and Peter is trapped by his own connivance, resulting in an unexpected romantic interlude for the producer and his star.
When Syd decides she needs to strike out on her own by moving into her own place, one of the first people she meets at her seemingly idyllic new home is Dr. J.D. Scanlon, a handsome and charismatic professor of Anthropology. J.D. easily sweeps Syd off her feet and enchants her with tales of his many experiences doing field research in Africa. Along the way, J.D. strives to convince Syd she needs a mentor -- him -- and that she needs to break away from her family. Unfortunately, Syd's family has other ideas, derailing a romantic interlude planned by J.D. J.D. gives Syd an ultimatum of sorts -- he won't date her as long as she is so tightly bound to her family. When Syd realizes J.D., for all his talk of independence from family, is just as tightly bound to his new family -- the building's other tenants -- she calls him on it and moves back home. We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be sent to Richard's home address! Receiving fan mail through his home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially from the standpoint of privacy and safety. If you have come across what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it! We -- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us know where you came across the address by using this e-mail link to the RBFC. While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts be sent to him. Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming. Richard would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to a local children's shelter or literacy program.
[08/14/00] ** "Wild Thornberrys" update ** -- Look for Richard's episode of the popular Nickelodeon animated series this Fall. Richard -- who took the part because "Wild Thornberrys" is one of his son's favorite shows -- voices a nefarious poacher who tangles with Eliza Thornberry and her eccentric family. "Action"
will premiere on the Comedy Channel, part of the Premiere World
package, on December 22nd. Richard's Cole Riccardi, Hollywood
leading man and action movie star, appears in two of "Action's" thirteen
episodes -- "Pilot" and "Blowhard." In the pilot, aptly
titled "Pilot," Cole (Richard) is introduced as a perennial star
of producer Peter (Jay Mohr) Dragon's blockbuster action movies.
Cole
Riccardi reappears in the fourth episode, "Blowhard," when Dragon
signs him to star in his latest movie, "Beverly Hills Gun Club."
The ink has hardly dried on the contract before Cole appears on
Peter's doorstep late one night, needing to talk to him. Cole
reveals he's gay -- and Peter says "so what." Then Cole
goes on to announce he wants to come out of the closet -- and Peter
nearly has a stroke.
"Providence"
begins airing on RTL on November 5th. Richard appears
in "Providence" in the episode "The Apartment," (episode
#2.14) playing Dr. J.D. Scanlon, Syd Hansen's (Melina Kanakaredes)
new neighbor and love interest.
