[23 Jan 07] *** Richard
mentioned in "The E! True Hollywood Story: 24," airing Tuesday, January
23rd at 9:00am ET ***
E's popular "True Hollywood Story" show takes a look at FOX's groundbreaking
hit series, "24," delving into the show's history and background. "Saving
the world hour by hour, week after week, Kiefer Sutherland has become an
American hero and made 24 an Emmy-winning powerhouse," says E! Online's
descriptive blurb.
Though focused primarily on star Kiefer Sutherland and his character,
Jack Bauer, the show also looks as the steps taken in the creation, production,
and casting process -- and the roads not taken. Richard Burgi was an initial
contender for the role of Jack Bauer, as was Carlos Bernard.
While Richard was one of co-creator Joel Surnow's choices, producers
and the network weren't convinced. When Kiefer Sutherland was chosen
for the role instead, Richard was offered one of the show's pivotal villain
roles -- mercenary Kevin Carroll, alias Alan York. The chilling reveal
of York's true identity and purpose was both gripping and unexpected, and
helped establish one of 24's cornerstones -- that no-one is as they initially
appear.
Richard would appear in eleven of the show's first season episodes,
with Kevin Carroll meeting his demise at the hands of a Serbian hit-man
brought in to finish the job bungled by Ira Gaines and his crew.

Richard's 2006 film for CTV and Lifetime TV, "In God's Country,"
premieres on CTV on Tuesday, January 23rd*** -- "In God's Country"
premieres at 9:00pm ET on Canada's CTV.
Richard plays Church Bishop Josiah Leavitt, the polygamist husband
of Rowan's character, Judith Joseph. Judith is one of the charismatic
Leavitt's eight wifes, and mother to four of his children in addition to
her own older daughter from a previous marriage. Several traumatic events
spur Judith to do the unthinkable -- flee her small community with her
children. Leavitt, of course, gives pursuit, luring Judith's oldest daughter
back home with promises he doesn't intend to keep. Judith has no choice
but to return home and make a stand.
"In God's Country" is produced by Shaftesbury Films Inc in association

[23 Jan 07] *** Richard films three
back-to-back episodes of NBC's "Las Vegas" *** -- Richard hit
the ground running in 2007 with three back-to-back episodes of "Las Vegas,"
starting work on the first the week of January 8th.
NBC's show page gives the description of "Las Vegas" excerpted below:
From Gary Scott Thompson -- the writer of the hit film “The Fast and
the Furious” -- comes “Las Vegas,” now entering its third season. This
fast-paced, sexy drama follows the elite Las Vegas surveillance team charged
with maintaining the security of one of “Sin City’s” largest resorts and
casinos.
Oscar and Golden Globe Award nominee James Caan (“The Godfather,” “Misery”)
stars as Ed Deline, the head of the surveillance team for the Montecito
Resort & Casino. With his protégé, Danny McCoy (Josh
Duhamel, “All My Children”) a former U.S. Marine and Las Vegas native,
they deal with card-counting cheaters, costly streaks of random luck and
rival casinos stealing their big-money players.
Richard will appear in "Bare Chested In The Park" (415), "Junk In
The Trunk" (416), and "Heroes" (417), with the first likely to air
in late February.

[23 Jan 07] *** Richard Burgi
dives into the horror genre with a part in Eli Roth's "Hostel: Part II"***
--
Richard finished his work in Prague, Czech Republic in late October on
the much-anticipated sequel to writer-director
Eli Roth's horror
blockbuster, "Hostel." The movie is now in post-production
with a June 8th 2007 premiere date.
Eli Roth gave MTV.com some teasing details on "Hostel: Part II,"
including (we assume) an idea of how Richard's character Todd and
his buddy
Stuart (Roger Bart) fit into the overall story.
Said Roth:
"The film is also following two guys who go through this experience
to kill somebody. And we know them really well, and they are very, very
likeable and they're very normal. It seems like there's nothing psycho
about them, except they are looking for some excitement in their life because
they are bored. ... That's going to be a parallel story. We see it
from the girl's perspective and we see it from the client's perspective.
We inter-cut both stories until they all meet in this horrible place. So,
we're going to learn everything about the organization, all the minutiae
of it..."

[23 Jan 07] *** Richard
and the men of Wisteria Lane join the Desperate Housewives in the 2007
wall calendar from Andrews McMeel Publishing *** -- The 2007 Desperate
Housewives wall calendar also features the men of Wisteria Lane, with Richard
appearing on Nicollette Sheridan's April page.
The calendar, which is printed by Andrews McMeel Publishing, appears
to have at least two different front pages; we assume this resulted from
design changes during successive print runs. Presumably the content of
the calendar itself has not changed. A quick scan of the back cover of
the calendar will show whether Richard is included or not.
The calendar is available through the usual retail outlets as well as
through online companies like Amazon.com, where it is selling for
$11.89,
a 15% discount off the MSRP of $13.99.
Amazon's description of the calendar reads as follows:
"Desperate Housewives, the breakout hit from ABC that single-handedly
brought back the classic prime time soap, is now stronger than ever in
its second season. Its mix of satire, comedy, and mystery is so inventive,
audiences are addicted to, even desperate to watch, each episode. Featuring
stunning images of the women of Wisteria Lane accompanied by actual images
from the show, the Desperate Housewives 2007 Calendar will match the success
of this phenomenal series. And fear not! the men of Wisteria Lane are included
too."

[23 Jan 07] *** Praise him, praise him
*** -- Though Richard -- and Karl -- will apparently not be as prominent
in the Fall 2006 season of Desperate Housewives as in Season
2, this is still a good time to contact The Powers That Be at ABC
and Desperate Housewives to let them know how much you enjoyed Richard's
work with Karl last season, and how much you look forward to seeing him
continue putting Karl through his paces now that Season 3 is in production.
Richard joined the full-time cast of Desperate Housewives in July
2005 and appeared in 15 of the 2005/06 season's 24 episodes as Karl
Mayer, Susan (Teri Hatcher) Mayer's ex-husband. Described by one TV
Guide correspondent as a "lovable doofus," Karl continued to moon
over Susan while stringing live-in girlfriend Edie (Nicollette Sheridan)
along and working as Bree's (Marcia Cross) lawyer. Richard has earned
repeated kudos from reviewers and columnists for his "impeccable comic
timing" as he's put Karl through his paces. While Karl will be back
to further bedevil Susan in the Fall 2006 season, the number and timing
of his appearances is uncertain..
Quick notes to ABC and the producers of Desperate Housewives are a good
way to remind them that you are watching and enjoying Richard's work on
their network and show. Let them know how much you're enjoying seeing Richard
putting Karl through his paces! Include a bit of demographic information
if you feel so inclined.
The ABC network can be contacted through the ABC website, where
an email "comment" option is provided:
-
Go to http://www.abc.go.com
-
Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where you will find a line of text
links; look for the "contact ABC" link.

Click on the "contact ABC" link and fill in the appropriate blanks in the
comment form
-
type in your comments and click the appropriate button at the bottom of
the text window.
The show's producers, The Edestein Company, can be reached

you to wax a tad more eloquent.

[23 Jan 07] *** Richard's "Providence"
airs on the Lifetime Real Women channel*** -- Tuesday, January 23rd at
7:00pm and 10:00pm ET/PT. Watch for Richard in "The Apartment," which
originally aired in February 2000 on NBC as part of the show's second season.
Richard played
Sydney's (Melina Kanakaredes) new neighbor
and love interest, anthropologist
Dr. J.D. Scanlon, in the episode
"The Apartment".
When Syd decides to move into her own place, Dr. J.D. Scanlon
(Richard Burgi) is the first neighbor she meets. J.D. is an anthropologist
on sabbatical, writing a book on his recent field work in West Africa,
and he is quite taken with Syd. J.D. flirts with and charms Syd into a
series of dinner-dates which are interrupted by minor family problems.
J.D. eventually tells Syd it would be better if they put their prospective
romance on hold until she's ready to assert her independence from family
ties.
A bit put off by J.D.'s sudden turnaround, Syd sees her new apartment
in a somewhat less rosy light; the roof leaks and the neighbors are maddening
-- and similar to her own family in some ways. When the whole lot turn
up for a Thursday night pot-luck dinner, Syd realizes that for all his
smooth spiel about independence from family, J.D. is far from independent
-- he has, in fact, created his own family or "tribe" out of the household
of neighbors. "I'm going home," says Syd, bidding J.D. and company adieu.

disposes of; for Vicki, a different fate awaits -- Bender abducts Billy
and their daughter and gives Vicki a choice -- she can have one or the
other back, but not both, and she has 12 hours to decide.

to Bender... but not close enough. With time running out, she choses their
daughter, gambling she'll have enough time to rescue Billy before the 12

Captain
Vincent Hunter, head of the DC Police Department's Internal Affairs

the late Lynn Thigpen) told Chief Mannion (Craig T. Nelson)
a bit about Hunter. He was a highly-decorated officer with a relatively
high solve rate while in Homicide, a department he left after discovering

We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be
sent to Richard's home address! Receiving fan mail through his
home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially
from the standpoint of privacy and safety. If you have come across
what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it! We
-- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us
know where you came across the address by using this e-mail
link to the RBFC.
While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded
to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts
be sent to him. Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity
those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming. Richard
would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to
a local children's shelter or literacy program, or to the Pacific
Marine Mammal Center .
