[21 Jan 06] *** Richard Burgi now
a Desperate Housewives Series Regular for Fall 2005 *** -- Richard
Burgi returned to Desperate Housewives as a Series Regular for the hit
show's second season. The series went back into production in late July
'05, picking up where the previous season finale left off.
Richard plays
Karl Mayer, Susan (Teri Hatcher) Mayer's
cad of an ex-husband on
ABC's award-winning hit series. Previously
seen in "Pretty Little Picture" and "Move On," Karl was back to bedevil
his ex in "One Wonderful Day," the highly-anticipated season finale.
Karl is romantically involved with Edie in Season Two while still carrying
a flame for his ex, Susan. Karl goes so far as to sleep with her in "Color
and Light," apparently hoping the door has been opened for a rekindling
of their romance. Susan gently but firmly denies this, and Karl returns
to the embrace and domicile of the Goody Britt, who he moved in with in
"You Could Drive a Person Crazy."
"One More Kiss" sees Bree hiring Karl as her lawyer when her son, Andrew,
decides on a blackmail attempt. Karl becomes Bree's impromptu White Knight
when he takes Andrew in hand and gives him the much-needed wakeup call
Rex, his friend, would have surely given his unruly offspring.
Thus far Richard has appeared in the second, third, seventh, eleventh,
and thirteenth episodes of the Fall 2005 season ("You Could Drive a Person
Crazy," "You'll Never Get Away From Me," "Color and Light," "One More Kiss,"
and Jan 22nd's "There's Something About a War"). As he is now enmeshed
in the affairs of his ex-wife, his lover, and his neighbor/client, it seems
likely Karl will become an increasingly prominent fixture on Wisteria Lane.
Karl is coming across as a more sympathetic character this season, and
he and Edie are looking more and more like the most "normal" and straightforward
residents of Wisteria Lane -- though considering the neighbors they're
being compared to...

Housewives" page at the ABC website, which has been updated for Fall
2005.

[14 Jan 06] *** Extra updates
and re-airs interview with Richard on location of People "Man of the Week"
photoshoot in Malibu*** -- The Thursday, January 5th edition
of Extra featured a November interview with Richard Burgi
conducted on the grounds of Gladstone's restaurant on the Malibu
shore. Extra cohost
Dayna Devon led into the spot (which
features interview footage from an earlier broadcast) with comments on
Richard's continued prominence this season.
"The Desperate Housewives may rule Wisteria Lane, but only one man,
Richard Burgi, has conquered not one, but two of the delicious divas, and
now we've got him," teased Dayna as lead in to a scene of Richard
and Marcia Cross from "One More Kiss."
"This week Richard Burgi is about to get involved with a very desperate
Marcia Cross," Dayna continued, as Richard and Marcia's scene played
in the background.
"Richard's juicy gig on TV's hottest show already has him playing
ex-husband to Teri Hatcher, and boyfriend to Nicollette Sheridan,"
Dayna continued, leading into interview quotes from Richard.
"Better kisser? Teri or Nicollette? Depends on their mood. Depends
on my mood, too," Richard deadpanned before Dayna's voiceover played
over scenes of him walking on the beach outside Gladstone's.
"After nearly two decades in the Biz, Richard's talking only to Extra
about his biggest break yet," said Dayna, " -- becoming a
series regular on Desperate Housewives."
"In between takes, you know, we make love... we like to get naked,
you know... try out various edible oils," said Richard, tongue firmly
in cheek.
A quick cut to a scene with Teri Hatcher and Alfre Woodard allowed Dayna
to change gears, moving on to Richard's selection as People Magazine's
Man of the Week.
"The 47 year-old hunk clowned around outside Gladstone's eatery in
Malibu when we caught up with him shortly after People Magazine named him
Man of the Week," said Dayna.
"It is wild, you know, almost 50 years old and hearing that sort
of thing -- it's great!" said Richard, adding "It shows good taste
and... tone on the part of the -- ah -- jurists from People Magazine."
Richard's photo shows him coming out of the sea, surfboard tucked under
his arm. "Surfing reminds me of my humble little -- silly thing called
my life," Richard told Extra.
Richard graced page 106 of the November 21st issue, where his
page text gave a brief list of vital statistics before delving into his
"sex appeal."
SEX APPEAL: As caddish Karl Mayer, ex-husband of Susan (Teri Hatcher)
on Desperate Housewives, Burgi revels in playing a rogue: "Who doesn't
like a mischievous little boy?" Especially if he has a manly physique chiseled
by surfing, biking and yoga. Not that Burgi doesn't goof off. "I'll drink
too many beers or eat a pint of ice cream -- I give myself permission to
enjoy life," he says. One shared with wife Lori, 45, a yoga instructor,
and sons Jack, 8, and Samuel, 5. So what's his secret to staying sexy?
"Not taking myself seriously," says Burgi. "I have a saying: I'm not here
for a long time. I'm here for a good time."
(Thanks to Extra for the coverage, to Ruth for the issue info and
scans, to Kat for the heads up, and to People Magazine for their
refined and exquisite good taste!)

[14 Jan 06] *** Richard
chats with About.com at the red carpet premiere of Fun With Dick and Jane
*** -- The Hollywood red carpet premiere of Fun With Dick and Jane
took place on Wednesday, December 14th at the Mann Village Theatre
in Westwood, with the film's nation-wide premiere taking place a week later.
"Yeah, my character is Joe Cleeman," said Richard, apparently
in response to a request for information about his role in the film. "I'm
Jim Carrey's next-door neighbor and I'm kinda' the guy who's got it all
together and everything... and Jim's this guy named Dick who's trying to
keep up with the Joneses, which is -- Joe Cleeman."
When asked what Jim Carrey was like to work with, Richard said "He's
a sweetheart. He's a lot of fun!"
The interview clip can be found at the About.com website, and Richard's
piece is at the end of the collected interviews.
http://movies.about.com/library/weekly/blfunwithdickjc121405.htm
Now in its fourth week in domestic release and premiering in various
international markets, Fun With Dick and Jane is closing in on the $100
million mark in domestic box office receipts (as of January 9th, the film
had taken in $81,077,547).

[14 Jan 06] ***
"Fun with Dick and Jane" now in its third week in domestic release ***
--
Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni headline this update of the 1977
original, which starred Jane Fonda and George Segal. Carrey
and Leoni play Dick and Jane Harper, a couple who find themselves
on the verge of financial collapse when Dick loses his job. The Harpers
turn to a life of crime to pay the bills, cooking up madcap schemes and
wild heists to support them in the manner to which they have become accustomed.
Richard plays their next-door neighbor Joe Cleeman.
Joe and his wife Veronica (Angie Harmon), as the Harpers' next-door
neighbors, are the couple to beat in the pecking order sweepstakes, which
the opening scenes of the film set up with Joe and Dick's "who's got the
better car" shenanigans.
Trailers for "Fun with Dick and Jane" are still available at various
online sources. Richard appears in two scenes of the original trailer as
the Harper's next door neighbor, Joe, and in a shorter version of the "red
shirt" scene in the newer, office-based trailer.
The trailer is available at the following online locations:

[14 Jan 06] *** The
Sentinel Complete First Season DVD Set announced for April 2006 release
*** -- Though it has been a long time coming, fans of Richard Burgi
and The Sentinel will soon be able to purchase the first season
of the series (which ran from 1996 to 1999) on DVD.
As announced at the tvshowsondvd.com
website, Paramount is releasing the show's first season (10 episodes) as
a 3-disc boxed set. The Sentinel: The Complete First Season will
be released on April 18th and is already available for pre-order
at various online retailers.
At present, it is unknown whether there will be any extras included
in the set; certainly there will be sufficient space on the third disc
for additional material, should Paramount so decide.
Richard plays Jim Ellison, a former Army Ranger now working
as a detective in his Washington State hometown. A solitary stakeout reawakens
dormant sensory abilities which lead Ellison to doubt his sanity, until
a graduate student name Blair Sandburg (Garett Maggart) explains
what is happening to him. Ellison is a Sentinel, someone whose senses --
sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch -- are all developed to an extraordinary
degree. With Sandburg's help, and the cooperation of his boss, Captain
Simon Banks (Bruce A. Young), Ellison uses his abilities to give him
an edge in the war against crime.

[14 Jan 06] *** Action Complete
Series DVD Set announced for February 2006 release *** -- Though it
took Sony two years to mull the idea over, the studio decided in December
to take Action to the DVD market, with an announced release date of February
21st.
According to the tvshowsondvd.com
website, Action is being released as a 2-disc set which will contain all
13 episodes of the series, this time with uncensored audio. There will
also be a "making of" featurette, as well as commentaries on select episodes
(fingers crossed that these include Richard's).
Richard appears in two of the show's episodes, "Pilot" and "Blowhard,"
playing action hero Cole Riccardi. "Pilot" introduces us to
producer Peter Dragon (Jay Mohr) and the denizens of his world as
he heads off for the red carpet premiere of his latest action flick, "Slow
Torture." Cole Riccardi, star of "Slow Torture," is Dragon's usual choice
for action-adventure leading man. Unfortunately, "Slow Torture" tanks,
taking Dragon's reputation with it.
When next we see Cole in "Blowhard," he has been signed to star in Dragon's
new film. Unfortunately for Dragon, Cole has decided this is the perfect
time to proclaim himself gay, which Dragon feels will kill both the film
and Riccardi's career. Dragon sweet-talks Cole out of outing himself by
claiming to be likewise "a friend of Dorothy," and Cole gets the wrong
idea, deciding romance is in the air.

[14 Jan 06] *** "In Her
Shoes" DVD release announced for late January '06 *** -- With
the domestic premiere of "In Her Shoes" now nearly three months behind
us, and the film well into its International run, 20th Century Fox has
announced the release of the film's Region 1 DVD. Presently slated
for a January 31st release, the DVD is available for pre-order at Amazon.com
and similar retailers.
The original QuickTime trailer is available at the Apple
website, as well as the official movie website at www.inhershoes.com
while the longer international trailer can be found at http://www.femalefirst.co.uk
in a variety of formats and sizes. Richard is featured
in the trailer in scenes with Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette.
"In Her Shoes" stars Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley
MacLaine. Richard plays
Jim Danvers, Rose's (Collette) cheating
boyfriend. According to the character breakdown, Danvers is "a handsome,
suave attorney at the law firm of Lewis, Dommel and Fenick. He's also a
cold-hearted ladies man who dumps women without thinking twice." Based
on the Jennifer Weiner book of the same title, "In Her Shoes" was
screenwritten by Susannah Grant and is directed by Curtis Hanson.

[14 Jan 06] *** Seinfeld's
Season 5 joining the ranks of DVD boxed sets on the retail market *** --
With the November release of Seinfeld's fifth and sixth seasons, Richard's
hilarious turn as the "breathtaking" Dr. Ben is now available in the Season
5 DVD set.
Richard appears in "The Hamptons" on Disc 4 of the boxed set. Jerry
& Co. head to the Hamptons for a weekend at the beach. As it happens,
their hosts have recently had a Happy Event and their pediatrician has
also been invited along for the weekend. Elaine is quite taken with the
dashing and handsome Dr. Ben, especially when he refers to her as "breathtaking."
However, her confidence in her understanding of Ben's usage of the word
is severely shaken when he also refers to the family's unspeakably ugly
baby as "breathtaking." Naturally, Elaine cannot leave well enough alone,
and pursues the issue to its inevitable and embarrassing conclusion.

[14 Jan 06] *** The Flash joining
the ranks of DVD boxed sets on the retail market *** -- As announced
earlier by the TVShowsonDVD website, a complete series DVD set of
The Flash will hit the shelves in January 2006. (The complete series boxed
set should now be available for purchase at your favorite DVD retailer).
The Flash is, in some ways, an older sibling to The Sentinel -- both
are Pet Fly Productions brought to the screen by Danny Bilson and Paul
DeMeo, and both featured several of the same actors and creative forces
-- Richard Burgi and Jeri Ryan being two familiar faces seen in both shows.
In fact, Richard and Jeri appeared in the same episode, "Deadly Nightshade"
-- Richard as the unbalanced copycat vigilante, Curtis Bohannan, and Jeri
as the kidnapped socialite. Jeri would later turn up on The Sentinel as
Alex Barnes, the Sentinel gone wrong in "Sentinel, Too, Parts 1 & 2."

Richard plays Craig Martin, the "wrong place at the wrong
time" realtor husband of movie heroine Jessica (Kim Basinger) Martin.
Unbeknownst to Jessica, Craig has videotaped crooked cops executing drug
dealers -- and the crooked cops are desperate to tidy up loose ends. To
get Craig and the camera, they abduct Jessica and the Martin's young son.
Jessica has one ace up her sleeve -- she's managed to patch a busted phone
together enough to tap out random phone numbers, and the guy on the other
end, Ryan (Chris Evans), is willing to help. Problem is, he's on

low.

Richard plays Captain V.J. Dax, the hero mentioned in
the film's title. When we -- and the besieged troopers -- first meet Captain
Dax, he is the last man at an otherwise abandoned and desolate outpost
on planet Zulu Angel. Disgraced and imprisoned in the outpost's incinerator
for killing his commanding officer, he is somewhat the worse for wear --
dirty, torn, unshaven, and more than a little war-weary. When the rapacious
arachnids threaten to once again overrun the makeshift defenses of the
old outpost, Dax is called upon to rally the rag-tag band of Troopers to
fend off the marauding Bugs. Unfortunately for Dax and the Troopers, the
arachnids have other things in mind for the unsuspecting humans...

[14 Jan 06] *** Catch
Richard when "Decoys" airs on Cinemax Asia in January *** -- Cinemax
Asia will air "Decoys" on January 15th at 1:00pm and 19th at 9:40pm,
Singapore time. Richard plays Det. Francis Kirk in the Canadian-made
tongue-in-cheek blend of sci-fi and horror.
Richard made a quick trip to Ottawa, Canada, during March and
April 2003 for his role in Decoys, which director
Matt Hastings
described as "American Pie meets Species" -- a sci-fi thriller
set on a college campus. Richard plays Detective Francis Kirk. According
to the script, "He's a young cop who knows that he won't be in this small
town busting college students for party pranks for much longer. He thinks
he belongs somewhere between NYPD Blue and the cover of GQ."
The Species connection comes into play in the form of the beautiful
and -- let us say -- otherworldy young women who descend upon the college
campus in search of healthy and libidinous young men. Much as in Richard's
1998 version of I Married a Monster, alien beings come to Earth
in search of mates -- only this time, it's the Outer Space womenfolk who
are eager to reproduce. Unlike their Monster counterparts, these alien
"femmes" are quite literally "fatales," as their reproductive process leaches
the body-heat right out of their unfortunate paramours.
Richard's Detective Kirk becomes involved when the extraterrestrial
temptresses leave a string of frozen young men in their wake.

now airing in original, uncut form on Canada's SPACE: The Imagination
Station ***-- SPACE is now airing The Sentinel on Tuesdays,
at 10:00pm ET with the episode repeating the following morning at 10:00am.
Richard Burgi plays series lead Jim Ellison, a former
Army Ranger now working as a detective for the Cascade PD in his Washington
State hometown. Ellison finds himself almost overwhelmed when his dormant,
and repressed, hyperactive senses are brought back online after a period
of solitude on a remote stakeout. Anthropology doctoral candidate Blair
Sandburg (Garett Maggart), whose chosen field of research is "Sentinels"
-- people with such enhanced senses -- has the answers Ellison needs to
control and work with his powerful and unpredictable abilities. Ellison's
long-suffering captain, Simon Banks (Bruce A. Young) helps Ellison
and Sandburg make the most of Ellison's sensory advantage by watching their
backs and keeping their extrasensory escapades under the radar as much
as possible.

Jan 24th - "Black or White"
Jan 31st - "Blind Man's Bluff"

[14 Jan 06] *** Firefly now
airing on Canada's Space: The Imagination Station, airing Wednesdays at
10:00am ET -- catch Richard in "the Message" *** -- The Space: The
Imagination Stationl has secured rerun rights to all fifteen episodes
of Firefly,
Joss Whedon's
short-lived "Western in space,"
and has incorporated the show into its Wednesday daytime lineup.
Visit Space: The Imagination Station's Firefly page at:
http://www.spacecast.com/shows_Firefly.aspx
Richard Burgi appears as Lt. Womack in "The Message,"
the shows' 13th episode. Written by executive producers Joss Whedon
and Tim Minear, and filmed in mid-December 2002, "The Message" was
one of the last of 14 episodes (15 with the pilot split in half) ordered
by FOX, and the last episode filmed. According to a brief description of
the episode, "the crew must deliver the corpse of an old war comrade
home, but things are not as they seem."
The script had this to say of Alliance Enforcement officer Womack: "He's
been around the block, and likely beaten up everybody on it."
Womack was intended to be a recurring character -- a shady lawman who would
undoubtedly cross paths with the Serenity at the most inconvenient times.
"The Message" is scheduled to air on Feb 1st 2006
(Thanks to Becky and Earthgrazer for the screengrabs) |

[14 Jan 06] *** Richard's
episodes of "The District" airing in repeats on the USA Network***
-- With CBS having dropped "The District" from the Fall 2004
schedule, the USA Network has picked the show up for syndicated
broadcast.
USA is currently airing the show weekdays at 9:00am ET.
Remember to check your local listings or the USA Network site for additional
information:
http://www.usanetwork.com/series/thedistrict/
USA's episode rotation "reboots" the show this month with Season 1,
Richard's heaviest season -- seven episodes in all. His first episode,
"Worst Block," will most likely air on January 17th, followed by "Surveillance"
on the 18th and "How They Lived" on the 20th.
The show is also airing in syndication in Singapore, where we assume
Season 1 is now in full swing.
A complete listing of Richard's episodes of "The District" can
be found on the Filmography page,
with an expanded listing and episode details on the District
Guide page.
Richard appeared in three of the show's four seasons in a total
of twelve episodes, playing the recurring role of the prickly and suspicious
Captain
Vincent Hunter, head of the DC Police Department's Internal Affairs
Division.
Unfortunately, the show did not take maximum advantage of the Hunter
character, though they established an intriguing back-story for him in
the first season episode "The DC Strangler." Ella Farmer (played by
the late Lynn Thigpen) told Chief Mannion (Craig T. Nelson)
a bit about Hunter. He was a highly-decorated officer with a relatively
high solve rate while in Homicide, a department he left after discovering
his wife -- also a police officer -- in bed with his partner..

info, to Becky and Erin for the District screengrabs, and to the Epguides
website for production details) |

[14 Jan 06] *** Write to Richard care of
the RBFC! *** -- Richard has asked us to encourage anyone interested in
sending cards or letters to him to use the RBFC mailing address, which
is listed below. This allows Richard to better handle
his incoming mail, which he certainly enjoys receiving, provided it comes
through appropriate channels.

RBFC

We cannot emphasize strongly enough that mail should not be
sent to Richard's home address! Receiving fan mail through his
home address is a disquieting experience and cause for concern, especially
from the standpoint of privacy and safety. If you have come across
what you believe may be his home address, please, do NOT use it! We
-- and Richard -- would greatly appreciate it if you would let us
know where you came across the address by using this e-mail
link to the RBFC.
While postcards, letters, and cards will be promptly forwarded
to Richard, we cannot forward packages; he has asked that no gifts
be sent to him. Though Richard appreciates the goodwill and generosity
those gifts represent, he finds them a little overwhelming. Richard
would be honored if, instead, wellwishers made a donation in his name to
a local children's shelter or literacy program, or to the Pacific
Marine Mammal Center .
