The Official Richard Burgi Fan Club was formed, first and foremost, to support the career of Richard Burgi. While Richard found the idea of a fan club in his honor a tad on the puzzling side -- "sort of bizarre," as he put it -- he gave the project his blessing. The RBFC was officially launched in October of 1998 and is a member of the National Association of Fan Clubs. Club memberships are issued and renewed on a yearly basis, beginning upon receipt of the initial membership packet. The membership packet includes an autographed color 8x10 of Richard, an individualized membership ID card, Richard's current biography and annotated filmography and the current RBFC membership directory. Members also receive the quarterly RBFC newsletter as well as updates on guest appearances and interviews and all the latest news about Richard's current and future projects. Bonus items may also, from time to time, be included along with the newsletter. Gift Certificate memberships are also available. Simply print out and fill in the registration form and send it, along with your payment (if by check or Money Order) or your PayPal transaction number, to the RBFC, care of Kathleen Cole. Annual membership fees are as follows: US, $20; Canada, $25; All others, $30. Checks or money orders, payable in US Dollars, should be made out to Kathleen Cole and mailed along with a completed registration form to: RBFC,
*** Visa and Mastercard users may now pay for their RBFC Memberships through PayPal *** -- Visa and Mastercard users, especially those living outside of the USA, now have the option of using their credit cards to make their Membership fee payments.
Unfortunately, the added convenience is not without cost; Memberships or Renewals paid through PayPal are slightly more expensive to cover PayPal processing fees. The Membership or Renewal rates for payment through PayPal are as follows: US - $22.00, Canada - $27.00, and International - $32.00. Remember, your payments must be made in US Dollars. **NOTE** -- Even when PayPal is used as a payment option, we ask that you fill out and send in an RBFC Membership Registration & Renewal form. This will enable us to process your Registration or Renewal quickly and efficiently. (Simply print out the Registration Form, fill it out, and mail it to the RBFC address printed on the form). For further information, contact Kat through the following RBFC mail link. General questions and comments about the RBFC should be sent to Kat; Member questions and comments on the newsletter go to Kat and questions and comments on this website go to Bert.
RBFC-Supported Charities Previously the RBFC honored Richard's interest in and dedication to the protection and preservation of the environment by supporting the National Audubon Society (NAS), donating in excess of $6,000 to that organization in the name of Richard Burgi by the end of 1999. With the start of 2000, the RBFC -- after consultation with Richard Burgi -- decided to support an organization more in tune with Richard's interest in grass-roots work -- the Orange County Bird of Prey Center (OCBPC). Fall 2001, and further consultation with Richard, brought us an additional organization to support with auctions and fund-raisers -- the Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center (FSLMMC). The Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center
The FSLMMC website -- http://www.fslmmc.org/ -- says this of the organization's mission: "Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center is a non-profit organization staffed by dedicated volunteers and funded by donations. Its mission is to:
Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center
Telephone: (949) 494-3050 -:- Fax: (949) 494-2802
The Orange County Bird of Prey Center Based in El Toro, California, the OCBPC is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of injured or abandoned raptors as well as to educating the community about raptors. Their mailing address is: The Orange County Bird of Prey Center,
Their phone number is (949) 837-0786 For more detailed information on the Orange County Bird of Prey Center, visit our OCBPC Page. At present the OCBPC does not have a website; should they launch one in the future, the URL will be added to this page. While Richard greatly appreciates the thoughtfulness and generosity of his fans, he finds gifts a bit overwhelming. He would prefer -- and would be honored -- if instead, fans make a donation in his name to the Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center, the Orange County Bird of Prey Center, or a similar organization in their home town.
*** The Fall 2001 RBFC Online Charity Auction *** -- Held from Wednesday, September 19th - Sunday, September 23rd, the Fall 2001 auction generated a combined total of US$ 4,577.00 in proceeds, all of which will go to the charity or charities chosen by Richard Burgi. To see the items which were on auction, please visit our Fall 2001 Charity Auction page. [09/25/01] The tragic events of September 11th, 2001 led us to reconsider the choice of auction beneficiary, with World Trade Center-related funds initially considered by Richard Burgi. After seeing the nationwide and international fundraising efforts for the New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania disaster relief funds, just one of which -- the internationally-televised "America: A Tribute to Heroes" benefit program -- raised over $300 million in pledges, Richard is concerned that many small, local, volunteer-run and funded charities will be overlooked. With that thought, he has asked us to use the proceeds of the auction
to support the Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center in Laguna
Beach, California.
Special thanks go to Richard and Lori Burgi (who donated the lion's share of the items up for auction), Jen Raisler, and Kathleen Cole for their invaluable help in donating and gathering the items offered. Thanks also go to Kathleen Cole, Carla Coupe, and Bert Hayling for the time and effort spent organizing and running the Fall 2001 RBFC Online Charity Auction. Without their generosity, this fund-raiser would not have taken place.
*** The Spring 2000 RBFC Charity Auction and Raffle *** -- The RBFC was pleased to sponsor an Online Charity Auction and a Charity Raffle to benefit the Orange County Bird of Prey Center (OCBPC). The Online Charity Auction began at 6pm EST, Thursday, April 6th, and continued through 9pm EST, Sunday, April 9th. Winning bids, along with additional donations, raised a total of US$1972.00 for the OCBPC. To learn more about the auction, the bidding process, and the items available, please visit the Charity Auction page. The RBFC also offered a fourth season Sentinel Press Kit in a raffle open to all Sentinel fans. Second- and third-place winners each received an official OCBPC tee-shirt. Each raffle chance cost US$5, all of which went to the OCBPC. The drawing was held on Sunday, April 30th and raised a total of $1,240 for the OCBPC. For more detailed information on the raffle, please visit the Charity Raffle page. Special thanks go to Richard and Lori Burgi, Garett Maggart, Bruce A. Young, Kathleen Cole, Darla Kershner, and Suzy Missirlian for all their help and generosity in donating and gathering together the items offered in the Charity Auction and Raffle. Quite literally, we would not be holding these fund-raisers without them.
Photos for the RBFC Photo Album Page The RBFC gladly accepts photos from Members for inclusion on the website photo page. There are a few provisos we must ask donors to abide by, however:
As Carla is the official Keeper of All Things Archival, please send e-mailed images to her address. If you do not have access to a scanner, the RBFC can do the scanning for you -- simply mail your photo, or a reprint of it, along with the details to the following address: The RBFC,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank Laura Trout for very graciously turning her considerable graphic design skills to the creation of a veritable cornucopia of RBFC banners. She took our rather nebulous ideas and helped us focus and refine them, and then went above and beyond to create almost a dozen different banners, including several animated GIF versions. Without Laura's contribution and inspiration, our banner selection would be poor indeed. Thanks must also go to Laura Peck for sharing her beautiful "Rally" photos with us, as well as to the countless fans who have provided the scanned and "screengrabbed" images incorporated into the banners. The banners can be found on our RBFC Banners page or by clicking on the "banner ad" image below. |
