The Official Richard Burgi Fan Club was formed, first and foremost, to support the career of Richard Burgi. While Richard found the idea of a fan club in his honor a tad on the puzzling side -- "sort of bizarre," as he put it -- he gave the project his blessing. The RBFC was officially launched in October of 1998 and is a member of the National Association of Fan Clubs. Club memberships are issued and renewed on a yearly basis, beginning upon receipt of the initial membership packet. The membership packet includes an autographed color 8x10 of Richard, an individualized membership ID card, Richard's current biography and annotated filmography and the current RBFC membership directory. Members also receive the quarterly RBFC newsletter as well as updates on guest appearances and interviews and all the latest news about Richard's current and future projects. Bonus items may also, from time to time, be included along with the newsletter. Gift Certificate memberships are also available. Simply print out and fill in the registration form and send it, along with your payment (if by check or Money Order) or your PayPal transaction number, to the RBFC, care of Kathleen Cole. [03 Mar 07] ***RBFC Winter 2007 General Auction to run from March 4th - 10th*** The Auction officially began at 12 noon PT / 3:00pm ET on Sunday, March 4th, and ended at 12 noon PT / 3:00pm ET on Saturday, March 10th. The RBFC's first auction of 2007 featured a selection of autographed photos, scripts, posters, DVDs, and wardrobe items from several of Richard's projects -- "The Sentinel," "24," "Point Pleasant," and "Johnny on the Spot," primarily. Detailed information on the Auction itself and the catalog of items is available on the Auction page. As with previous auctions, this one was run manually by the RBFC, with bids being placed by email using links set up in the Auction catalog. A Yahoogroups list was established to allow bidders to better keep tabs on the high-bid status of various items. Subscription information is available on the Auction page. This auction was a departure for the RBFC in that the proceeds went primarily towards defraying the Club's operating expenses. Hopefully the need for such "housekeeping" auctions will arise only rarely. All proceeds go to our official charity, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center! http://www.pacificmmc.org/ [07 May 05] *** "Return to Cascade" Sentinel Convention a success with guests and attendees *** -- "Return to Cascade" reunited the actors, creators, and some of the more notable writers, directors, and producers of The Sentinel for the first time in years. The convention was held February 26-27th, 2005 at the Westin Hotel LAX in Los Angeles, California, and was greatly enjoyed by guests and attendees alike. Richard joined Sentinel costars Garett Maggart and Bruce A. Young, as well as series creators and executive producers Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo, for the Saturday afternoon festivities. The Q&A session proved to be "Old Home Week," with the actors and producers enjoying each others' company and the recounting of behind-the-scenes tales. The Q&A was followed by an hour-long autograph session and later, by a live auction conducted by the five guests. Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo raided their hoard of Sentinel memorabilia for often one-of-a-kind mementoes of the show, and to the audience's delight, the proceedings were leavened by laughter and goofiness. With his official Convention appearance wrapped up, Richard joined members of his official fan club, the RBFC, for an informal meet n' greet session. Richard was, as always, witty, charming, warm, and down to earth as he chatted about work, interests, and life in general. Members, watch the official RBFC newsletter and list for updates.   [07 May 05] *** The Official RBFC charity, the Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center (FSLMMC), has chosen a new name -- the Pacific Marine Mammal Center ***  -- A recent letter from the MMC (excerpted below) details the name change: "With the expansion of our responsibilities to include cetacean rehabilitation, as well as the expansion of our education programs to include a broader curriculum, we have made the decision to take a leap and give ourselves a name that more fully reflects what we do -- Pacific Marine Mammal Center. We are excited about the new name, as it is more reflective of our work with all marine mammals, as well as of the ever-expanding scope of environmental education programs we offer. We have big plans for the next couple of years including a renovation of our upstairs education area and the reconstruction of our outdoor pools and pens to accommodate our steadily growing patient load and improve the water quality for the animals. We are very proud of our history, founders, board members, staff, and volunteers, included. Who would have thought that the rescue of that first tiny harbor seal pup 33 years ago would have such an impact on the lives of the thousands of marine mammals that we have given a second chance at life? We are so grateful to those of you who are long-time donors and to those of you who are new friends. [09/25/01] The tragic events of September 11th, 2001 led us to reconsider the choice of auction beneficiary, with World Trade Center-related funds initially considered by Richard Burgi. After seeing the nationwide and international fundraising efforts for the New York City, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania disaster relief funds, just one of which -- the internationally-televised "America: A Tribute to Heroes" benefit program -- raised over $300 million in pledges, Richard is concerned that many small, local, volunteer-run and funded charities will be overlooked. With that thought, he has asked us to use the proceeds of the auction to support the Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach, California.   The Friends of the Sea Lion Marine Mammal Center (FSLMMC) is a non-profit organization run by volunteers and funded by donations. The Online Charity Auction began at 6pm EST, Thursday, April 6th, and continued through 9pm EST, Sunday, April 9th. Winning bids, along with additional donations, raised a total of US$1972.00 for the OCBPC. Quite literally, we would not be holding these fund-raisers without them. Photos for the RBFC Photo Album Page The RBFC gladly accepts photos from Members for inclusion on the website photo page. There are a few provisos we must ask donors to abide by, however: Richard should be in the photo (well, obviously). Photos of Richard with his cast-mates are fine. Richard's family must not be in the photo (for everyone's peace of mind). Whenever possible, everyone in a photo should be identified for us and willing to appear on the 'net (and there should be at least one RBFC Member in the photo -- excepting, of course, the aforementioned cast photos). Photography credits and details -- by who, where, and when -- allow us to properly thank the contributors and label the pictures, so please be sure to include this information. The RBFC reserves the right not to add a picture to these pages or to hold it for a later page update. We can accept photos from Members as e-mail attachments in both JPG and GIF image formats (though JPG is preferable). One or two images per e-mail would be best, with the details for each image typed in the message body.
